Joshua MortonStrauss died at 8:43 PM on August 7th, 2018 after a long and difficult battle with cancer. Joshua was married to Kathleen, and father to two extraordinary young men, Ryan and Brennan.
July 17th, 2017 is the day the MortonStrauss Family learned that Josh’s cancer had returned; a single day away from what would have been Josh’s celebration of being cancer free for 3 years. It was on that day that the MortonStrauss family geared back up for a journey that lasted 386 days.
In these past 386 days, the MortonStrauss Family has been through countless Chemotherapy, Radiation, Hospital, and Doctor Appointments. Josh fought until the very end, and he got to spend one more glorious year with his beautiful family.
Josh played Rugby, and passed his love of the game onto his children. This is where Josh’s path and my own crossed, and Jennifer and I were blessed to have the MortonStrauss Family enter our lives. Ryan and Brennan were signed up for Rookie Rugby Cincinnati’s Inaugural Season in 2016, and since then both Ryan and Brennan have racked up numerous accolades including playing for Eagle Impact Rugby Academy (EIRA) Midwest, Rookie Rugby Cincinnati’s Select Side, and Moeller High School.
Ryan will be a Junior and Brennan a Freshman at Archbishop Moeller High School this upcoming Fall. Moeller’s motto is “Forming our students into remarkable men.” Not to take anything away from Moeller’s influence on these two young men, but both are already truly remarkable. Ryan is involved with not only Rugby, but also Hockey and is a 4.0 student. Brennan also plays Hockey, and is the most athletic young individual with an astute comprehension of Rugby. Josh and Kathleen have raised Ryan and Brennan to be empathetic, caring, and strong young men. Josh instilled in these boys his love of the game along with Rugby’s core values of respect, courage, and discipline. It is not common in today’s world that you find two young men who have such a propensity to be men for others.
Kathleen and the boys are three of the strongest people I know, and to lose their father and husband at such an early age is a tragedy that no child or wife should have to bear. I asked Kath how she was able to get through all of this and still have such an upbeat and positive attitude to which she responded to me, “Our village is good!” Kath has an army of friends and family that have surrounded them to support them over the past year.
Now it is our turn, the MortonStrauss’ Rugby Family, to show them how great our village can be. All donations will be delivered directly to the MortonStrauss family to help them with whatever expenses that they need (medical expenses, funeral costs, tuition, Rugby dues, etc.). Please help show your support for the man whose light burned shortly only because it burned too brightly. Rest in peace Josh, we are “with you.”
