I'm headed to Tanzania, Africa on February 17th to provide technical support to a local hospital.   There are some very basic needs that need to be addressed to help improve the way their hospital is managed.  What does this mean…? They have acquired used servers but have no hard drives.  They have laptops, with no batteries; they must be plugged in always.  They have hardware they do not know how to configure.  This list goes on and this is where I come into play.  I am capable of helping fix all of these basic needs, but of course, everything comes with a cost.

I have already purchased a few hard-drives and wireless equipment.  I am reaching out to anyone who would like to donate any sort of other (IT) equipment and/or monetary donations.  I will be actively posting on Facebook and reporting back as to how all these donations are helping better the lives of the Tanzanian people.  By fixing these basic needs, we will be able to start addressing the REAL problem…all the FRAUD that goes on while streamlining the management of medical records.

This all started out when I was discussing the issues a third world nation faces when trying to modernize the IT infrastructure with my Doctor friend who works at the hospital. (They need to remain anonymous for security reasons until my return.) I wanted to understand how technology could address the fraud that goes on while streamlining the management of medical records.  Again, what does this mean…?

A patient arrives at the hospital and pays the person at the front desk their “co-pay” and are handed their medical records.  The patient sees the doctor and once they leave, they need to check out.  The checkout person then takes their records and never does anything with them – basically throws them out.  This way, there is no record that the patient was ever there, and the front desk person pockets the “co-pay”; most likely sharing this with the checkout person.

We are capable of directly improving their situation!  Are you interested in being a part of that?  If so, please donate what you’d like to help.  Every donation will be entered in a drawing to win an XBOX ONE!
