Jonathan Sokoloff,  an American teacher who has been in Beijing for almost two years was injured April 25th in a horrible, possible fatal car accident and is currently at a Beijing hospital post brain surgery, on life support. It's been very difficult to work with the hospital and get a clear picture due to the language barriers, legalities. His Florida family is trying to bring him home for proper healthcare by Shands Medevac. They are also trying to communicate and learn the details regarding his insurance and teaching contracts. Family is desperate. If he has no flight insurance it will be $223k to get him home (not including medical costs and current hospital bills). They have been working with the US Embassey in Beijing along with Jonathan's school since the accident. Please help bring Jonathan home, all donations will be very gratefully received!

Jonathan touched many lives, almost every person he met and that was normal for him. He had never met a stranger and was so curious about others' lives.

He was a son, a brother, a nephew, a grandson, a teacher, a best friend...an all around AMAZING guy!

Please join us for his Celebration of Life on May 30th at 10:00 AM!

Services will start at the Love Tree and move inside for lunch after.

Should you want to send flowers or cards, you can send to Kanapaha Botanical Gardens the Friday before from 1-6 or that Saturday morning before 9:30.

Attire is whatever you are comfortable in, Jonathan was a big fan of comfort (example: his tuxedo shirts when he had to dress up)!

Please message with any questions and family will answer this way. Thank you and see you all soon to celebrate this wonderful man!

Today has been another exhausting day for my sister Nickie (Jen) but she continues to stay strong and has moved mountains today in China. We were able to get our brother Jonathan moved to a funeral home in China and he was cremated today. My sister has him with her and will be headed home later this week. Over the next few days she will continue to pack up his apartment and ship his things home. Soko is coming home on a flight from China with my sister hopefully this Friday. We have already started conversations about his "Celebration of Life" Memorial Service we plan to have here in Gainesville. We will post the specifics sometime later this week as to when, where and time. Thank you everyone for all of the support and prayers for our family. This has been a devastating couple of weeks and we will be glad to just get them back in the USA ASAP!

Please keep fingers crossed that the paperwork is complete this Monday so I can fly home with my brother in my hands Thursday!

It is suppose to be much longer (almost a month) but we/they are trying to push it through asap.

While Jonathan's friends here in Beijing have been so amazing and supportive, I'm just ready to be with my family/friends now!

Pray they complete Monday so I can get home on time and we can start planning Soko's Celebration of Life Memorial!

-Jen "Nickie"

PS-we are still getting many messages with questions! As we have new and concrete updates we will post here.

I'm a friend of Jonathan's out here in Beijing, and I've been in quiet awe seeing the amazing response to his need. I want everyone looking at this page to know that his friends out here in Beijing are also working to mobilize the international community here to help out. Jonathan is a very special man who has touched many lives, and news of his accident has sent shockwaves through the community. Know that he is being well taken care of while we work to make all the necessary arrangements possible. We are all taking time to try and be there at the hospital, learn what we can (I am among the Mandarin speakers and continue to offer my help as a communicator where needed), but more importantly just be near him so he will never be alone. Our focus now is getting his family here so we can make sure they are not feeling helpless and in the dark. Pray for Jonathan, as we are all doing. He's a kind, funny and loving guy who we all adore.
