The Legacy of Jonathan Moore

Donation protected

On March 8th, 2017 I lost my beloved father, Jonathan Moore, from complications of a rejected kidney transplant. He will be dearly missed by our family and his friends.

I am Upendo Moore, 18, first son of Jonathan Moore & Erika White along with my brother Miles, son of Jonathan Moore & Caitlin Brower Moore.

I would like to extend a special "THANKS" for all of the outpouring of love and support from everyone and for sharing their stories of my poppa and how he has impacted their lives & careers.

I always knew my poppa was a special father but it was really crazy and a little overwhelming to see how far and how many people he touched around the world.

Currently I am attending Shoreline Community College in the music program. I am working part-time to help supplement my school costs and this money will be used to further my college education and to setup a college fund for my baby brother Miles. We will create a college 529 Plan for Miles so that he can choose where ever he wants to go to school to pursue his dreams and ambitions. The money will also help my family offset costs for the memorial service.

The last 18 years of my life spent with my father were beyond fullfilling and I hope that we can continue his legacy through the arts and the love of community.

My poppa was a teacher at Franklin, a mentor to all, an artist and musician. He volunteered at Miller Community Center and gave countless hours of his life focused on the Youth here in Seattle and nationwide. He helped shape the Seattle music scene first with his group Source of Labor then managing artists through Jasiri Management Group and later on the radio supporting and raising up Seattle artists on his Sunday Sound Sessions show on KUBE. When people would ask him where he is from, he would say "Seattle---Ten toes deep".

I Love you Poppa,
Upendo Selassie Moore
