Jon Steven's GBM Cancer Fight

Donation protected
As a newly empty nest couple Jon and I never imagined we would be spending the remainder of 2016 fighting for his life.  We envisioned spending time with friends, car shows, an occassional vacation and just spending time together with family.  How quickly things change.  On September 23rd, after a visit to the emergency room, a CAT scan revealed a large Glioblastoma Multiform brain tumor.  This type of tumor is stage IV and very aggressive.

September and October have been an emotional roller coaster to be sure.  Family, friends, churches and even some facebook groups have all been praying for our cause and we were lucky to find a wonderful group of Doctors within the University Hospitals to help us fight this tumor and give us some hope.

Due to brain swelling from the first surgery and the tumor, Jon was left with right side weakness in his leg and arm.  He is also dealing with short term memory loss and some partial loss of vision on the right peripheral of his right eye.  A second surgery, due to an infection on his incision site, caused additional muscle mass loss and more weakness.

Through it all Jon has worked hard and tried to maintain a positive outlook even while depending on us to tell him his improvements because he cannot remember for himself.  After a month in the hospital, he is finally at home. Jon receives Nurse visits, Physical therapy, Speech therapy, and Occupational therapy care from University Hospitals homecare now.  He needs to have someone with him everyday to care for him at this point.  We are fortunate enough to be able to support that need between his daughters, sister and myself each covering a day of the week. Unfortunately, FMLA in this situation does not include pay when we stay home to care for him or take him to an appointment.

We are now a month into our fight and the medical bills from 2 surgeries, rehabilitation and the next 9 months of ongoing radiation and chemo therapy are rapidly accumulating.  Even a small percentage of the cost that is not covered by insurance is in the thousands of dollars.  Our goal on this GOFUNDME site is to raise funds to purely help offset these medical costs.

The donations you make to this fund will provide Jon and I the ability to maintain current rehabilitation and cancer treatment to fight this horrendous battle without the over bearing financial worries.  Many of you have already been so wonderful by sending flowers and cards, we would just ask that you make a donation here instead.  This would be such a blessing and a help to our family during this time.  Thank you in advance for any small amount and may each of you and your families be blessed with God's love and good health.  Kiss your loved ones and keep them close, things can change in the blink of an eye.
