I'm Jo, a visual and performance artist who was born and raised in Jamaica, but is now a resident of New York City. After graduating high school, I decided to take a gap year; so that through experience, I could have more concrete ideas about what I would like to study in college. During my gap year I have had the honor of being Dedalus Foundation's Catalogue Raisonne intern, ArtsConnection's Student Art Program intern and Hyphen's curatorial research intern, among many other things. These positions have allowed me to realize how passionate I am about art, and has directed me towards pursuing a college degree in Art History, with an aspiration to expand my curatorial and artistic knowledge. In the fall, I will be attending Syracuse University to embark on this journey.
A college education, though worthwhile, is incredibly expensive. As a result I have sought numerous scholarships, and have been awarded with enough funds to pay for my school tuition, and a small portion of other college fees. Currently, I am still in debt with expenses regarding health insurance, room and board, and other small expenses such as internet, electricity etc. Unfortunately, my family is not in the position to help.
I am a self motivated, determined and committed individual, who always seek to maximize my potential. I am also empathetic, optimistic and am a ray of sunshine in whatever environment I am placed in. I am sure that I am a great addition to Syracuse University's student body, and that I will graduate with even more to contribute to the artistic community, as well as to the betterment of the world. Helping me to pay my college expenses will help to ensure that my goals are accesible . In addition, the support and aid I recieve from you would help me to be succesful during and after college independent of my parent's financial support.
Your help is imperative to my comfort and success, and I can assure you that your contribution will not go in vain as I have been, and will continue to be a very focused and determined individual, who is commited to materializing my dreams.
