On June 19,2018 I took Isaiah to Monroe co hospital due to lower left pelvic pain and leg pain. Next thing you know we are an ambulance to the medical center. We were taken to icu because he had blood clots from his abdomen all the way down both legs. They did surgery the next day and inserted tubes in both legs with clot busting medicine in them. None of that was working so after a week they decided to put us on another ambulance to Egleston Children's Hospital. After arriving there we were informed that they were going to go in and manually remove the clots. He was in surgery for almost 6 hours and in the icu for another week. They did one more surgery a couple days later to remove the tubes. Mind you in this whole two weeks he had to lay flat on his back and could not move so that he would cause any further damage. They diagnosed him with DVT and sent us home with some blood thinner pills. Since he spent a lot of his summer in the hospital he wanted to go spend some time with my dad in North Carolina. I picked him and his sister up the day before school started. He seemed a bit different than normal, but he still went to school the next day. After he got home from school he had completely lost control of the left side of his body and kinda of mumbling and just acting weird. So I took him back to the children's hospital that night. They first tried telling me that it was just stress and I kept telling them no it is not he is not acting normal something Is wrong. So they ran every kind of test their is besides a spinal tap. The MRI showed that a blood clot went to the front part of his brain and broke up into tiny pieces. The blood clot that went to his brain caused him to have a stroke. He also had a bright area on the left side of his brain. One of the ultra sounds also showed that there was also a small bright area on his right lung, plus his blood clots were back in his left leg. Apparently he is super high risk for blood clots and the pills were not strong enough. A couple days later is when they came in and told us he has lupus on top of everything else. They started his treatment immediately with chemo and steriod infusion. We go to Atlanta once a week for the steroid infusion treatments and once a month for chemo. Plus his appointments with the lupus doctors and the hematology doctors. He also takes 9 pills every morning, one of which is prednisone 40mg, plus his blood thinner shots twice a day.  I am so very proud of how strong and enthusiastic he has been through out this whole process. Sometimes comforting me and telling me that "it is going to be ok momma". I must say i am also proud of myself for raising such a great young man.
