John Knox Mission Trip

John Knox Presbyterian is a small church in Houston, Texas, with big dreams of serving God's world. Our youth group is made up mostly of kids living near or below poverty level, but in spite of their own difficulties- or perhaps because of what they've experienced- they are dedicated to helping others who are struggling in life.
This summer, from June 11-17, our youth would like to join other Presbyterian youth from our area on a mission trip to Arkansas to work for and learn from Heifer International . The cost will be $400 per person. Our students simply can't afford it. If you can contribute even a small amount, it will make a big difference for us! We need to raise $3200 for our 8 participants, and we need to have all the money turned in by May 12.
Heifer International, the group that we'll be helping, is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to end hunger around the world. They provide livestock, tree seedlings, and important training about those things, to people living with hunger and poverty in over 125 countries around the world. The program that we'll be attending is at their "Heifer Ranch" in Arkansas, where the students will participate in teambuilding, educational sessions, an overnight village experience, and hands-on service projects like milking a goat or harvesting vegetables. Our John Knox kids are already familiar with Heifer since we work with them annually here at church, and they are eager to learn more and help them out.
In addition to empowering our kids help Heifer, you will be ministering to them directly. When our students visited Ft. Worth last year for a mission trip, 260 miles from here, it was the farthest most of them had ever been from home. This year's trip is over twice that far away. If you were blessed enough to be able to travel as a young person, you already know how these trips can expand your horizons and enrich your life. We dream of them being able to get out of the city, see parts of the country they've never seen before, and do it all in the company of other like-minded youth- for a good cause. This can be a transforming experience for a young person.
