Help Fix Online Job Searching!

Donation protected
Did you know that 60% of current job vacancies are no longer advertised to the public? That makes it very difficult to look for a new job if you can't learn about the majority of available positions in your community!

JobJournal.com significantly improves job searches by giving you access to this expanding 'hidden job market.' Here's our story and why we need your help.

THE PROBLEM

Anyone who has attempted to find work online knows what a frustrating experience it is. Scraping has caused most job boards to list all the same postings; many of which are outdated or nonexistent, and jobseekers’ applications just disappear into a ‘black hole,’ never getting any responses.

Employers are equally exasperated because nine out of ten resumes they receive are from people who are not remotely qualified for the position. Too many companies have stopped using job boards because it takes so much staff time to process all the worthless applications.

Many factors have contributed to the Web’s failure as an employment facilitator, but we believe the fundamental flaw is that frustrated jobseekers have no incentive to be selective about where they apply for work. Studies have shown that less than a third of online applicants actually read the job description and requirements of the position.

WHAT’S NEEDED

Employers need protection from the avalanche of unqualified resumes they receive when advertising on the Web; and jobseekers still need access to those positions, but must have a vested interest in prescreening their suitability before applying.

THE SOLUTION

JobJournal.com  listings are from the ‘hidden job market’ and exclusive to our site. Users can browse all the job descriptions for FREE, but they pay 44-59 cents to learn the employer’s identity and how to apply. (We guarantee  our jobs won’t be found on free job boards). Jobseekers know the jobs are fresh and exclusive; they are kept in the loop on their application status and have an excellent chance of standing out in a select group of qualified candidates.

The site has proven very effective at influencing jobseeker behavior in a highly efficient manner. With exclusive postings protected by anti-scraping technology, and employer identities and critical contact information hidden behind a secure paywall, the site has been very successful at delivering only applicants whose qualifications match the requirements of the job.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

We’re seeking $100,000 to fund a 16-week independent marketing test to demonstrate the scalability and capital needed for a (future) robust statewide marketing campaign. If we provide independent metrics showing that JobJournal.com can generate sufficient consumer interest at a reasonable cost, we can demonstrate how this new business model will dramatically improve online recruitment for both jobseekers and employers!

With 34 years of employment industry experience in Northern California and a history of innovation, including publishing the first employment newspaper in the United States (California Job Journal, 1982-2013), Job Journal knows all about recruitment and job searching. Our dilemma is that we are trying to implement a dramatic change to the status quo: Giving people access to positions they can’t find elsewhere and changing jobseeker behavior – an uphill climb that we cannot sustain financially without your help.
