The Adventures of a Crazy Turner

Donation protected
Last winter the Edmonton Woodturning Guild, that I’m a member of, put forth my name to receive a scholarship to attend the ArrowMont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. I was accepted and given some choices of times to attend, who to study under and what to study. This program is for 2 weeks and starts the 26rd of June and runs to July 8th.
This comes at a time when we are still struggling to regain financial footing after my husband’s transplant. Therefore, there is little room in the family budget to finance this opportunity.
It is my intention to leave home on June7/2017 and travel across country to Kansas City, Missouri to attend the American Association of Wood turners (AAW) Symposium from June 23rd to 25th. I hope to be able to meet up with and spend time with likeminded wood turners along the way and broaden my horizons on different methods, technics and designs.
The conference will bring together more than 1,500 turners from around the globe to learn, share, and celebrate the art and craft of woodturning making it the largest woodturning event in the world. This event is held every year in a different city across America. This will be the 3rd time I’ve attended this event and is one of the most inspiring. These people are so eager & willing to share their knowledge. They are also some of the friendliest I’ve had the pleasure of meeting.
I intend to create a special group on my Facebook page for those interested in following my Journey, where I will post daily updates and hopefully do some live streaming and recordings. This would be for safety reasons.
Wood turning has become my life’s passion since my husband and I bought that first little MasterCraft lathe from Canadian Tire in Whitecourt 4 years ago. As I travel, I will not only be promoting Wood turning in general but also Women in Turning (WIT) of which I’m the Regional Ambassador for Western Canada!
Many have already expressed an interest in hosting me and collaborating on ideas. There are so many talented Turners/Artist to learn from across the country that I can’t possibly stop at all of them nor are they on the route that I need to stay close too.
It’s my goal to raise $7000.00.
If 500 of my friends/supporters donate ONLY $15.00, I will be able to fund my WHOLE study abroad trip without accruing additional debt!
Be in the number my friend and donate $15.00 today! Let the count down begin!
