On Thursday 14th of September 2017 a neurosurgeon in Brisbane told my husband he has Cauda equina syndrome. This is a tumour in the spinal cord between L4 and L5. The tumour is blocking the fluid to the lower part of the cord and pushing on the nerves.
My husband is 34 years old and we have two young sons 9 and 6. This thought is terrifying.
He is already experiencing severe symptoms. We were advised he could wake up any day and be paralysed.
He needs urgent surgery and this still leaves a chance of being paralysed. The surgery will try remove the tumour hopefully without damaging the nerves in the spinal cord further and letting the fluid flow.
We are unable to wait for the public system due to the severity of the tumour and where it is. Surgery is $22000 plus recovery. This will change our lives forever if we are unable to get this in time.
We are both going to be off work, and I want to be by his side while in hospital which is in Brisbane and we live at the Sunshine Coast. This means we are both off work unpaid.
We never ask for help off anyone but we are now, please help our family.
I know these always are always out and about! we are never the people to ask for help but we have sucked up our pride and asked... please help us even if it's a couple dollars it all adds up! We promise to pay it forward as much as we can.
