My dear friend, John Landreville, is currently battling stage 5 chronic kidney disease. Right now both his kidneys are functioning at less than 10% and his creatinine count is over 2000, where an average person's count is 60-100. A transplant is a necessary measure for him to be able to survive.
If you know John, you know his sarcastic wit, but you also know his brilliance and his kindness. John was one of the first people I met when I started at Wayne State and he made a point to get to know me and be a mentor during my first nervous year of graduate school. In the past two and a half years, he has done a million favors for me, both big and small. From giving me rides, to helping me move, to listening to me complain about grad school and life, he has been a solid friend and if you know him, I imagine what I'm telling you is no surprise, so I urge you to help our friend who has been there when we needed it.
John needs a kidney transplant urgently, so this is also a plea for you to get tested to see if you can be a donor. Please contact John's girlfriend, Janet Lee, at [email redacted] for information on how you can find out if you are a match for John. Donors' lives are only mildly impacted by donation while the recipient gets a new lease on life, so please consider getting tested.
The funds that we raise here are going straight to John and Janet to be used however they see fit. Janet has had to take time off of work, there are medical costs, and lifestyle changes that John will need to take on and this will hopefully alleviate some of that stress for them.
Let's help get John well so he can start cracking jokes on us again.
