JJ’s Fight for a Better Life

Donation protected
On December 10, 2015 I received news that no parent ever wants to hear, JJ had cerebral palsy.  An MRI found that he had a brain bleed and stroke in utero resulting in brain damage and malformation. While doctors have assumptions about the cause of the bleed, they are unable to be 100% certain.

The last 15 months have been a roller coaster of doctors, therapists and tests. JJ has seen and tried everything from occupational, physio and speech therapists to neurologists. After months of being told that he may never crawl, walk or speak, something inside me snapped. Anyone that has met JJ can attest to the sweet, lovable and happy kid he is and I knew that there had to be something better out there for him.

Through much research I came across a world renowned, private facility in Toronto, Ontario called Health in Motion Rehabilitation (H.I.M.R).  All I could think was “this is his chance at a better life and I have to make it happen”.

JJ and I just spent the past 4 weeks in Toronto attending the L.I.F.E program and it was life changing to say the least. It was the first time someone told me “he can, he will”. Going into this program JJ had hyper-tone, daily digestive issues and was unable to do anything physically, with both arms and legs raised and tight by his sides the majority of the time and unable to keep his head up for more than a couple minutes. This program has allowed JJ to progress not only faster, but also with proper form and the foundation to continue to build on and gain independence in everyday functions.

Progress JJ has made in 4 short weeks includes:

·         Hyper tone/spasticity – gone.

·         Able to roll in both directions

·         Able to get into sitting position with heavy assistance

·         Head and trunk control increased greatly

·         Babbling lots with a couple of words

·         Able to push body weight up from hands

·         Digestive system working well (refined diet)

I am trying to raise money to ensure JJ can continue attending sessions in Toronto and insurance doesn’t cover it.  Anyone that knows me knows how hard it is for me to ask for help, but JJ’s future quality of life is in my hands and that’s not something I take lightly so here I am, asking for help.

JJ has changed my life in so many ways. He’s taught me patience, unconditional love, fight, and how to slow down to be in the moment. It’s my hope that if he can continue to attend the L.I.F.E program, I can change his life in just as many ways.

Thank you all for reading,

Much love, Jane
