An update from a dear friend:

Gregory and his family wish to thank you all for your kindness and support. It has been overwhelming and humbling for them, to say the least. Your ongoing kindness and generosity, in all forms, has helped sustain them throughout this time of immense loss and tremendous change. Thank you.

By now you know Gregory Sarlo's husband Jim Allen Reeder sadly passed away this July 29th 2019 of late stage liver failure and acute kidney disease, along with other complications. He spent two months in the hospital and was so hoping for a liver and kidney transplant. Jim was surrounded by family and friends, however he never got to see his furry babies Annie, Rosie and Sophia for one last time.

Greg is now left not only to deal with the loss, but also immense medical bills, the expenses for Jim's final arrangements, as well as the mortgage on their home.

Unfortunately, this past year Jim was not able to work. As most of you know, Greg is self-employed and spent much of his time advocating for Jim's healthcare, which is a job in itself! The home he shared with Jim is so dear to his heart, and the hearts of countless others. This home is not just four walls, a foundation, nor a roof. It is their home they shared for over 17 years, full of cherished memories and nostalgia for so many.

I recall when Greg and Jim were planning to build their home from the ground up. This would be their first new house and they wanted it to be open and cheerful, particularly at Christmas time and Thanksgiving. Greg and Jim always welcomed everyone or anyone that was alone and made them feel right at home! You could hear laughter, the dogs barking, and Greg cooking in their beautiful kitchen.

I have been fortunate to be one of those people. When I first met Greg, I was in a very dark and vulnerable place. Now 30 years have passed and I am so grateful and blessed to have two of the most generous and sweetest souls in my life!

Now it is time to help Greg, my opportunity and our opportunity and to help give back. Please join me in helping Greg! Through a kind word, a warm hug, a home cooked meal, a GoFundMe donation, or however you are able to lend your support.

Sincerely,
Simchah Golan

**********  Update 7/29/19 **********
Jim passed away on Monday July 29th, with Greg, Danny, family and friends by his side. Donations to this GoFundMe will help cover Jim's final arrangements as well as the extensive medical expenses incurred during his valiant battle to the end. Please help us spread the word by SHARING this far and wide - thanks!

Jim Reeder and Greg Sarlo have been wonderful friends and supporters to so many of us over the years. Their generosity and kindness  has been unfailing.  They are the very definition of "good people", willing to help anyone, at any time. Now THEY are in need and it is our turn to help.   The situation is very, very urgent.  As many of you know, Jim -  with Greg ever-by-his-side -  is valiantly battling late-stage liver failure and other very critical medical issues.  Jim  is currently in Northwestern Medical Center, where they are working to stabilize him so that he can move to a palliative care facility where he can undergo physical therapy and stabilize to the point where he might qualify for a liver and kidney transplant. Long-term, a transplant is Jim's only viable option. And the  pathway to transplant approval will be a long, hard and very, very, very expensive one. Currently Jim's insurance situation is unstable. Greg is advocating day and night  with both the hospital staff and insurance company to get Jim the right help, in the right facilities, that will ensure his best possible outcome.   This is creating potentially catastrophic out of pocket medical bills. It also is taking Greg away from his business and because he is self employed, if he does not work, he does not get paid. Also, Jim is unable to work, so their income has taken a dramatic hit on every level. Donations to this GoFundMe will help pay these huge medical expenses and help ease their minds as Greg struggles with the day to day challenges of keeping his business and family afloat as he battles on for Jim. If you're reading this, you've surely been the beneficiary of Jim Reeder and Greg Sarlo's extraordinary generosity and support in one way or another. Please donate (and share this link!)  today and show them that we are here for them, too, in their desperate time of need.
