Hi, and thanks for visiting the GoFundMe page of the Minnesota Emergency Communications Team. Our organization is a group that specializes in disability services as well as providing other services that assist with unique public safety issues facing physically challenged persons on a daily basis as they move throughout their communities. This GoFundMe campaign will fund certain expenses related to our Trap Ride program to keep the program free to the physically challenged persons whom we assist. The Trap Ride program helps mobility wheelchair-bound persons in unique situations that occur when a power mobility device breaks down, or when a citizen gets stranded with, or separated from their power wheelchair because of an unexpected, emergency medical situation. The Trap Ride program’s services are free of charge to the citizen.
Reasons to Fund Trap Ride:
1. Currently, there are no such services in existence in the Twin Cities area besides our Trap Ride program.
2. Traditional transportation services do not provide transportation services for power mobility wheelchairs.
3. The disabled persons using these services are generally low-income, fixed income.
4. Other options such as hailing a cab are not feasible.
5. Medical insurance does not cover the cost of transporting a disabled motorized wheelchair because these situations are not recognized as a medical need (when in fact, to the person in the wheelchair, it most certainly a medical necessity).
6. Before Trap Ride, the power wheelchair was taken into an impound lot, making another hardship on the disabled person whenever they got out of the hospital.
7. Trap Ride exists to transport the power wheelchair to wherever the ambulance takes the disabled person or to some other location desired by the citizen.
