Jessica’s Back Surgery

Donation protected
This is a story written on behalf of Jessica.

Jessica is a US Army veteran who served in direct combat operations on Team Lioness in Ar Ramadi, Iraq 2004-2005. Team Lioness was the first female team in US military history that was attached to Marine infantry and Special Forces units to perform checkpoint operations, house raids, and personnel searches on Iraqi women and children for weapons and explosives.

Today, she currently suffers from multiple sclerosis and is dealing with aftermath of a botched surgery at a VA hospital that damaged her nerve. The surgery was intended to shave some of her disks down to relieve the pressure on her spinal cord and they removed 3 bone spurs the size of a fingernail. Following the procedure, her lower left leg began exhibiting signs of nerve damage. North American Spine in Texas has the tools and proper procedure to aid Jessica in freeing herself from her current wheelchair-bound status.

Jessica cannot sue the VA for malpractice due to the Feres Doctrine, which prohibits military service members from taking legal action against the VA. The VA says there is nothing more that they can do for her other than keep her on Hydrocodone (Norco), and she has refused since having to recover from addiction to painkillers. With the support of family and friends, she is seeking a non-addiction-inducing remedy for her painful, traumatic experience.

As a combat veteran, spouse, and mother to an 11-year-old daughter, Jessica fights everyday to be present and to conduct the most fundamental daily living tasks. Her spouse, also a combat veteran who served with 2D Infantry Division in Ramadi, Iraq was diagnosed with Appendix Cancer in 2016, and survived.

Jessica is currently unable to drive, take care of herself and basic needs, and her health and state are continuing to diminish daily. She walks with assistance from her spouse or with a wheelchair. She went from an outgoing, gregarious, active woman warrior to someone in perpetual agony and pain.

Please help this mother, Lioness, US Army combat veteran, spouse, chef, friend, and wonderful woman warrior who is also battling MS the help she needs from the North American Spine in Texas.

Show your support today and help Jessica get her life back.
