Jessica Kunevicius and Matt Fadel

Dear Friends and Family of Jessica, 

As many of you may already know, on March 3rd, Jessica had an unexpected and rare-for-her-age, heart spasm and cardiac arrest on Friday March 3rd while visiting Santa Fe, New Mexico, with her sister, Olivia, and her friends for the weekend. She was given almost immediate, lifesaving CPR.   Then her heart was paddled back to life.  She has since spent the last 72 hours in a critical care unit with her sister and friends at her side.  Her husband Matt, her father, Rich, the Kunevicius family, and the Fadel family rushed to be with them.  She has not been alone for one second.

There are many encouraging signs as she is reacting to various stimuli, though she has yet to open her eyes and she may remain unconscious and in the critical care unit for weeks.

 The cost of this situation to Matt and Jessica is unfathomable.  Matt, a school teacher for the Brighton School District, has limited sick days at work and what emergency days he takes will be unpaid.  Jessica, a solo practitioner immigration attorney, even in the best case scenario, will not be back at her desk for months.  It is uncertain as to whether she will be able to return to work or continue her law practice.  Matt and Jessica’s combined income, therefore, may soon be zero and will be until Matt gets back to work.  We have set-up this Gofundme page in Jessica’s name to hopefully offset what will be a very expensive medical tally and to responsibly bridge the gap between this surrealistic experience now and an uncertain future filled with very real bills. 

Jessica is a beloved friend and passionate immigration lawyer.  She has dedicated her life to serving the immigrant community in the Denver area, keeping their families together, and fighting tirelessly for justice.  Matt is a high school English teacher for the Brighton  School District and works with struggling teens at an alternative high school.  The couple has worked so hard to better our community and make it a more just place with increased opportunities.
