Jess's Breast Cancer Fight

Donation protected
When I first got the phone call from Jess, my heart sank. My childhood bestie has breast cancer at the young age of 29? This stuff is only supposed to happen in movies, right? This can’t be real.

Well, unfortunately it is. The past few weeks have been a roller coaster of emotions for everyone, to say the least. Jess was diagnosed on May 1st with stage 2A triple negative breast cancer (TNBC). Sounds like a lot, right? What does this even mean? TNBC is a very rare form of breast cancer, accounting for only about 15-20 percent of breast cancers in the US & tends to be more aggressive and harder to treat than the other few types. Treatment options are limited for TNBC due to a lack of hormone receptors on the cancer cells & includes only chemotherapy, radiation and surgery, which is exactly the road that lies ahead for Jess. She will be starting her 6-month chemo treatment in the next week or so, right before Memorial Day weekend, followed then by surgery to remove all tumors & affected breast tissue, and radiation treatment afterwards.

Jess has a long road ahead of her, but those of you that know Jess know that’s she’s a fighter and will give every ounce of strength and courage possible to beat this ugly disease! For those of you that may have stumbled upon this page & don’t know her as well, here’s just a small glimpse of how amazing she is and why we all love her so very much:

She’s currently working as a department of defense police officer in Virginia and is also a master at arms in the naval reserve after 8 years of active duty, including 1 deployment to Afghanistan from April 2011-April 2012 and 1 deployment with the USS George Bush from January 2017-August 2017. She has been with her husband Logan for 7 years now & married for 6 of them, and they met while serving our country. Logan is still active duty and currently works as a 3rd class Operation Specialist. Together they have two beautiful children named Gunnar (3 years old) and Adilyn (2 years old). Jess embodies so many admirable qualities...she’s hard-working, dedicated, loyal, passionate, fierce—just to name a few, and she always puts her family and friends first. Any battle that she has faced in life thus far she has conquered with positivity, integrity, grit & humility, and I don’t imagine that this battle will be any different.

I can’t even begin to explain how much her friendship means to me, and I’m sure that if you asked anyone else that has had the privilege of meeting her in this lifetime, they would agree that it’s an honor. The last thing that anyone wants is to watch a friend like Jess go through something horrific like this. I started this page in hopes that financial expenses would be one less thing that her & her family may have to worry about in the coming days ahead while she is undergoing treatment. If you can find it in your hearts to contribute towards this amazing cause, you can use this page to do so, and if you are not in a place financially to do so, prayers and positive thoughts & words of encouragement are also helpful as well. Any funds that are raised will go directly to Jess & Logan to help ease the financial burden that comes along with fighting this nasty disease, and also for things that they may need during all of Jess’s treatments (gas money, food, etc).

As Jess’s favorite saying goes: “you can take my hair, you can take my tata’s, but you will NEVER take my fight”. Here’s to kicking cancers butt!!! <3
