Jenny’s Got This

As many of us started this past New Year’s Day deciding our newest resolutions for the year, my friend, Jenn Mottola, was determining a treatment plan for her new diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia.

In early December of 2018, Jenn started exhibiting symptoms of what many of us would shrug off as a common winter cold.
As the holidays approached, her symptoms persisted.  Jenn decided to visit an urgent care clinic. The clinic took blood tests and placed her on antibiotics but were unable to give her a clear diagnosis.
On New Year’s Day 2019, Jenn received a call from the urgent care clinic urging her to immediately go to the emergency room as her blood tests came back with blasts in her blood which is an indication of leukemia. By conducting blood tests, the urgent care clinic saved Jenn’s life and she is incredibly grateful for their diligent care.

Jenn is currently receiving the best care she can possibly get at The Dana Farber Cancer Institute of Boston. Jenn and her family are quite familiar with the amazing care at Dana Farber as her brother Mike, was diagnosed with lymphoma in October 2014, and received a stem cell transplant in December of 2015.

Jenn’s treatment plan requires her to have a stem cell transplant this coming July. Her mother, Rosie Mottola, will be donating her stem cells to Jenn.

As Jenn is currently on long term disability, she is not receiving her typical monthly income. Jenn purchased a beautiful home in 2018 and manages a mortgage on her own. Medical bills have already started rolling in and will only accumulate more as she receives her transplant this summer. Jenn has been out of work since the start of the new year and will most likely be out of work for a year after her transplant. No one should ever have to worry about financial stressors as they go through this journey. I am kindly asking for any donations to help alleviate the costs of Jenn’s medical treatments.
