Jeffrey Bodzick's Continuing Care
Donation protected
On June 2, 2017, one day after Jeffrey graduated and aged out of his special education program at Char-Em, his mother, Karen Bodzick, passed away unexpectedly. Karen is my sister.
June 2nd was also the day six years earlier that Jeffrey's sister, Jenny, died.
Jeffrey has always lived at home under the care of his mother. Karen was widowed when Jeffrey's father, the then Sheriff of Emmet County, MI, died of a heart attack in 2002.
This had been a heroic act, as Jeffrey is severely handicapped and requires 24/7 care. He can walk but he is non-verbal and unable to feed or take care of most functions to live. He is just 26-years of age.
Karen spent the last 3 years battling cancer as well as lung-related illnesses. Her multiple hospitalizations and care have left Jeffrey in a periless state financially. To be blunt.... there is nothing. Whatever is raised will be to feed, house and clothe him, HOPEFULLY in the only home he has ever known. Yes he gets aide from many agencies but it does not come close to meeting all his needs. Were he to become a ward of the state he would be placed in an institution, where he would be medicated to control his behavior. Please help us avoid this.
I thank you in advance of your consideration of this request.
