Jeff Smith, a 46-year-old son, brother, loving husband and incredible father of two girls ages 15 & 11, was diagnosed with Renal Cell (Kidney) Cancer 3 years ago. After having one kidney removed and a few scares, he fought his way back to regular activity and work. Unfortunately this past Fall, he started suffering from blinding headaches. While on his way to work one day, he literally went blind and discovered his cancer had returned and spread to his brain.
Since September 28, 2018, he's had brain surgery, radiation, immunotherapy and 9 hospital admissions including stays at Holy Cross Silver Spring, Holy Cross Germantown, Suburban, and finally Johns Hopkins, where he was admitted for over 7 weeks.
While at Johns Hopkins, he suffered from a series of infections, his kidney shut down, his white blood cell count and neutrophils dropped to zero, and he had internal bleeding requiring a series of blood transfusions and a number of platelet infusions. While the good doctors at Johns Hopkins were able to get him stabilized, they were not able to stop the cancer from spreading to his spine and the rest of his body.
Jeff, now faced with no cure or treatment options for his cancer, has chosen to go home under Hospice care and the watchful and loving eyes of his family and friends. He will enjoy his remaining time with quality family time, movies, teaching & watching his girls run the meat smoker, listening to good music and enjoying his visits with extended family and friends from near and far.
As you can imagine, the hospital bills are staggering. Our ultimate goal is to support Jeff and his family by providing relief from these financial burdens by raising as close to $100,000 as possible. 100% of the proceeds will go to the Smith Family.
