Jeff Parisi Family Support Funds

I'm sure everyone is beginning to hear about what has happened. Two weeks ago, our dear friend and brother to us Jeff Parisi was in a serious head-on collision with a truck due to heavy rains and slippery road conditions at the time of the accident. He is in critical condition, but stable. He is currently in ICU at the Santa Rosa, CA hospital where they are taking great care of him. His mother has described the surgeons and nurses as “angels.” He was trapped in the car for two hours while they tried to get him out and lost over half of his blood during that time. He suffered extreme damage to all organs except his heart. His spleen was removed, he had a punctured lung and multiple bones in his left leg and arm were fractured or completely crushed. He has had seven surgeries so far to spare his leg and repair his arm and elbow. His neck was fractured, but as of right now there has not been brain damage they can detect. What a blessing! He will be undergoing more surgeries once the bones have started to set in his leg and arm, as he lost both muscle and ligaments that had died due to suffocation from being trapped in the vehicle for so long. They will be going in to fuse as much of these back together in hopes of restoration, as well as skin grafts and plastic surgery. Jeff is currently still on dialysis, but they are hoping that his kidneys will begin to function again on their own. I am sharing this not only as an update for those who have kept this family in their prayers but also as an outreach for our community to pull together and help support them through such a critical time. If everyone could just keep Jeff and his family in your prayers and send lots of positive energy their way, it would be greatly appreciated.
It is not only a blessing but a “miracle” he is alive. We are positive that Jeff has chosen life in the face of death. One of his surgeons stated this is the worst case someone has survived that he has seen in his 30 years of experience. Those who know Jeff and his family know they are rich in mind, body, and spirit. There's still a long road ahead. There will be continuing surgeries to stabilize him enough for rehabilitation. Following stabilization, they have requested the family place Jeff in a rehabilitation facility close to the Santa Rosa hospital in case further kidney dialysis is needed. We keep in touch with Susan and his family on a regular basis and will keep everyone updated on here as often as possible. I'll update this page often or you can text me, message here or on Facebook.
In the meantime, people keep asking what they can do to help. So, we have started this page to start raising money for him. We can only imagine all the costs that are going to be involved. Fundraiser events are being discussed as well. We set this page up to assist the family in travel costs, housing, and medical expenses. If you'd like to do something, please say a prayer, or donate $5, $20, $100, $500. The Parisi Family will be grateful for any donations to help aid them through this process and is very grateful for your outpouring of love and prayers.

Update on Jeff 07-16-17

Hello Everyone,

I’ve been in California with Jeff for the past month and am home for a couple of weeks getting caught up on things here, so I wanted to give you an update on his progress. He’s coming along, but all therapy has been put on hold until he can start to bear weight on either one of his arms or his left leg. We’re not sure when that will be. His left elbow has been a bit of an issue and is holding things up with that arm. There were screws exposed with an infection setting in, so they did a rush skin graft while I was there. It’s sort of a catch-22. The plastic surgeon says the plates need to come out of his forearm because that may be the issue with infection, but the plates are holding together the bones in that area which were snapped in half, and he still needs a bone graft to replace a chunk that’s gone. So the doctors will have to sort this one out between themselves. Since his spleen was removed, infections need to be kept well under control. He goes back to the orthopedic surgeon this week and will find out more then about what the game plan will be.

The following week he revisits the doctor who will be doing the ligament work in his left leg after the screws can be removed from his knee. His ACL, PCL, meniscus, and sections of muscle were all destroyed as well as having a an open femur fracture, a severed vein and a fractured patella (kneecap.) The outer hardware (fixator) was removed while I was there, so it’s sure not as intimidating, but he’s in a locked brace and the leg has to stay straight at all times.

I’ve lost count of how many surgeries he’s had so far – I think we’re at 11 and counting. But each one gets him a little closer to getting on his feet. The more information I received about the accident and what it took to get him out of that car, the more I know what an absolute miracle it is he’s still here, and with no apparent brain damage or paralysis. Glory to our most awesome God!

It’s amazing to me how good Jeff’s spirits are. He’s in a facility with mostly elderly folks and there are three beds crammed into a room that was only meant to have two. And yet through all this time, he hasn’t complained hardly at all or felt sorry for himself. He just gets a bit frustrated because he wants so badly to get his body moving along and see what he can do with it. Those of you who know him well can only imagine…. he’s been laying still on his back for almost 13 weeks now. But he’s being a very good patient and they all love him there. They just started getting him up into a wheelchair which is great because we’ll be able to get him outside and into fresh air and sunshine. Michael takes very good care of him when I’m not there, and we’re so proud of them both.

That’s about all the news for now, and might be more than you needed, but I know there are some of you that love details. So there you go!

Thank you again so very much for your love, prayers, and extreme generosity. I don’t know what we would have done without your help. If you’d like to send Jeff a card at some point, his address is below. He asked us to please pass along his love and appreciation to all of you as well.

Blessings and much love to you all, Susan and Vic
