Help Jee Jing survive sexual assault

Donation protected
Please help queer disabled WOC survivor Jee Jing stay alive after a brutal assault that left her seriously injured, in debilitating pain and struggling to live.

In 2017, Jee was sexually assaulted in her home. As a result, she now struggles with severe PTSD and depression as well as intense, burning pain from the nerves in her spine which radiate down to her legs and feet, and into her arms and hands. She is unable to work due to her injuries, and for over a year now, has largely been confined to her home and bed.

Though Jee has been receiving regular treatment for the last year, her pain has been sharply worsening and burning in her limbs is now spreading. Thanks to all your donations, she was able to see 2 spinal specialists and get x-trays, multiple MRIs, medical exams, and an epidural spinal injection to try to gain an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plan. Unfortunately, this path led to no results and the spinal specialist admitted she did not know how to next move forward. Her recommendation is to see a neurologist for tests and go from there. As anyone who has struggled with chronic pain knows, trying to find relief and compassion in our broken medical system can feel impossible. It’s hard not to feel defeated but we are trying to stay hopeful.

Recovering from the trauma of sexual assault is an enormous task; having to survive the daily physical reminders of your assault through debilitating injuries that have put your entire life on hold is excruciating. But survivors unfortunately don’t get to press pause on life while they try to heal, and Jee still needs our help. She is still unable to work and her health insurance does not kick in until January 2019. Even after her insurance goes into effect, she must pay a $576 premium per month as well as $ for co-pays, appointments and tests until she can get to the root of what is causing her severe nerve pain.

We know it’s hard for Jee’s friends and supporters that her story isn’t one of quickly “overcoming” her sexual assault, and that she has continued to need your help. No one knows the frustration and helplessness of this better than she does. However, recovery is a long process, and our healthcare system is simply not built to support the needs of survivors, especially those who are disabled queer women of color.

Since the sexual assault, Jee has also had to deactivate her Twitter and expunge her internet presence due to persistent harassment and defamation from people online. In early 2018, this escalated to the point of her mother’s address and photos of her close family members being published online. Someone even took a photo of her departed father’s grave and posted it. Her harassers have been relentless, and we consider their attempts to be part of a broader effort to smear, discredit, and silence survivors who speak out about their experiences. The violence she’s experienced online, rooted in racism, misogyny and ableism, has only contributed to the stress, fear, and difficulty of her situation.

Please help keep Jee alive through this difficult and scary time.

We are fundraising for the following:
Health insurance premium ($576/month, ongoing)
Medicine for pain management, managing anxiety and PTSD ($450/month, ongoing)
Ongoing chiropractic adjustments for Jenny’s spine and pelvis ($190/session, ongoing)
Acupuncture for pain management ($90/week, ongoing)
Psychiatrist for PTSD ($140/week, ongoing)
Physical Therapy ($110/session, ongoing)
Living expenses such as food, rent, and transportation to and from appointments, as Jenny is still unable to work ($1800/mo, ongoing)

Recovering from rape includes astronomical costs for therapy, medical care, lost work days, etc. & according to the CDC, the lifetime cost per victim is $122,461. Many absorb these costs in silence and invisibility. We are so thankful for everyone’s generosity and kindness, and it is with gratitude and hope that we ask for your help again. Thank you for helping Jee to not have to go through this alone.
