Jay's Last Wishes

Jay Jugoz is only 35 years old which makes him a millennial.  While most millennials are looking forward to building their lives, Jay Jugoz is just hanging on to his after being diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. It’s hard to imagine what getting that diagnosis would feel like and fortunately most of us will never have to know.

Jay Jugoz is a good man.  He’s a loving father and has a giving heart.  But alas, as life goes, for unknown reasons, bad things still happen to good people.

Jay was born in Sacramento and raised in the Elk Grove area. He graduated from Sheldon High School in 2002 and soon after joined the United States Air Force where he served his country for four years as Military Police of the 721st Security Forces Squadron.  After his military stint, Jay began working in the hospitality industry because he liked people. He was a natural, as anyone would attest who has sat at a bar Jay was tending. Before he knew it 12 years had passed and eventually Jay made the bold move to open up his own place. The Riverside Sports Bar. Throughout his years in the hospitality business Jay would organize events and raise money for others in need. Over the past 8 years Jay organized events that have resulted in $30,000 being donated to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation for childhood cancer research. He also raised $16,000 for the Morton Golf Foundation for student athletes and last December his "Chive Group"  raised $3,000 for the Sacramento County Sheriff's Toy Project.

Jay has barely had time to process this devastating news, but in speaking with him we asked what things would help realize peace of heart.  True to form, Jay’s wishes were modest, yet deeply important to him.

Our hope is to make sure Jay’s wishes are realized.  With your help and generosity here, we will accomplish this.

Jay’s Wishes:

1) To be able to take his daughter & family to Universal Studios --- something they have been wanting to do for a long time, but kept getting pushed off because of time and money.

2) Jay wants to host a toy drive for Shriners Hospital for Children and specifically for the cancer patient kids in the Sutter Oncology Unit where Jay currently receives his chemotherapy (the toy drive is something he was planning to do for Christmas, but Jay doesn’t know what his health will be like then)

3) He would like to live out his last days free of financial pressure, and

4) Finally, he would like to be remembered for his true spirit of giving and goodness, long after he is gone

We are all moved by Jay’s plight and we want to make his “last wishes” come true for he and his family.  Therefore, we are planning an event scheduled for Sunday, August 18th, 2019 at Jay’s bar, the Riverside Sports Bar, located at 6401 Riverside Blvd, Sacramento CA , 95831. 3pm-8pm .

We are going to make this event a toy drive and are calling it “Jay's Toys and Tips Drive". Instead of a cover charge, guests will bring a new or unused and unwrapped gift which will be collected and contributed to the Shriner’s kids --- for an early Christmas.  We have also organized the other bartenders and they've agreed to donate all their tips from the event to Jay, which we hope will be sufficient to cover his time off and/or the trip with his family to Universal Studios.

We realize that some of you may not even know Jay.  But Jay’s story is all too common and all too hard to bear and could happen to any of us or to a loved one.  Together, with your help and generosity we can help Jay find some finality and fulfillment as he lives out his days -- in peace.
