Hello everyone,
After many years, doctor visits, misdiagnosis's, and much more, my nephew Jay has been diagnosed with Juvenile Huntington's Disease (JHD). Huntington's Disease (HD) is mostly found in adults, but 5-10% of HD cases are juvenile. Jay is one of many children who suffer from JHD. HD is a progressive disorder that causes the breakdown of brain cells in certain areas of the brain. This results in uncontrolled movements, loss of intellectual abilities, and emotional disturbances. Eventually, most HD patients need  24 hour care and attention.  It is a hereditary disease passed down from his father and there is a 50% chance that his brother, Sean, is at risk as well. If you want to learn more about this disease, click on the links above. For more information and updates on Jay's personal with JHD click on this link https://jhdkids.com/jay-hersho-jaybird/ .
Considering this information, my family and I are fundraising for anything to accommodate future needs for Jay's journey. That includes any specialist need to be seen, conventions, any future medical expenses that are not covered by health insurance, and anything that can boost Jay's quality of life.
He is one of the happiest 15-year-old boys that anyone could meet and he can put a smile on anyone's face.  His mother, Nikki, works really hard to support her family, despite living paycheck to paycheck. It is important that enough money is raised to support Jay, Nikki, and our family in this journey ahead so that Jay and Nikki can enjoy the best quality of life possible. It has been two years since Jay has been diagnosed and he has had a significant decline in health. He is still suffering from seizures, has lost mobility, and most of his ability to communicate. He receives all of his nutrition from a feeding tube and receives full time care from Nikki and a nursing agency. He is on multiple medications to aid his symptoms, but there is no cure for this disease. Recently, Jay had an extended hospital stay due to an infection and we learned at this stage in his disease any future infection could be life threatening.
We are asking for as much support as we can get for the long road ahead.
We appreciate the support and generosity that we have already received and we thank you in advance for any future support!
