Jason The Masons Cancer Story

On January  4, 2019, Our lives would be forever changed with some of the most devastating news about Jasons health.

I took Jason to the hospital on January 4, 2019 because of how he was feeling. He was very lethargic, had a really bad cough, wasn't sleeping & was just not feeling on point. He had been feeling this way for well over 2 month. So it was time for answers. Jason DOES NOT get sick. We have been together for six years and in those six years, he has never felt this way. So it was a huge concern for the both of us.
We just had no idea how much our lives were about to change.

When we got to the hospital, Jason was taken back right away but we were quarantined in a room because they were concerned Jason might have Tuberculosis.  The nurse who did his intake was concerned about his cough and how long he had it, so they were taking precautions by quarantining us. They told us to get comfortable because we were gonna be there for a while. Jason was about to have a lot of test done!

The first test ordered was a chest x-ray. That was done right away and the results came back faster then expected. When the doctor came in to tell us the results, I knew right away something was wrong.

From the chest X-ray the doctors found out Jason had pneumonia, a blood clot in his lungs, black spots all over his lungs & they found a mass on the top of his liver. The top of his liver was captured and it showed a mass. It got cut off because the size was so big, so they called for a scan just of the liver. Thats when the 7cm mass was found on Jasons Liver.

The doctors told us all that, then told us that he would be admitted because he was really sick & they needed to do more test to see what the spots were and how big the mass on his liver is. We both knew it was not good. There was no talk of cancer yet, and it was NOT what we were expecting to hear at all!

Jason was admitted into the hospital that night. He was put on many different medications. He was also put on oxygen because he could not keep his oxygen level at a  stable place. He had 9 different bags of fluid attached to his IV stand. He had every single blood test and scan done. He even  had a biopsy of his liver. Jason was extremely sick & we had no idea what else was going on. The doctors would come in and talk about how sick Jason is and how we need to prepare ourselves for the news. They all knew what was going on and how serious it was, they just wanted to make sure they were right. And we are both so thankful they did just that!

Every single test that came back, came back worse then we though.
Jason had a bone scan done. The results for the bone scan came back as positive for cancer in his bones.
Jason had another scan done on his lungs. The black spots in his lung were cancer.
Then Jason was rushed to have a biopsy done on the mass that was found on his liver. We already knew what the results were gonna say & so did the doctors.
Jasons final result was the biopsy results from the liver. They came back as followed; POSITIVE for Metastatic poorly differentiated non-small cell carcinoma.  In other words, Stage 4 Lung Cancer.

The cancer started in Jasons Lungs, then went to his Liver, then bones.
When the doctor was telling us, I couldn't even form any words or expressions. I just watched her mouth form the words "stage 4 lung cancer"  Jason was just given his pain medication via IV, so he was falling in and out of sleep, so he wasn't all to clear on what was really going on. It was a day I can never forget.

Jason spent seven days in the first hospital. We were kicked out by Jasons Insurance due to being "out of network" with the hospital.  When Jason was discharged, he did NOT go 24 hours fever free, like the nurses kept telling  Jason he needed to be in order to get discharged. He actually had a fever 2 hours before he was discharged and he got a fever 1 hour after coming home.  He was also sent home with NO OXYGEN even though he spent that last 7 days on oxygen and was told he would be coming home on oxygen. He was also not given the right medications to go home on. Even tough we were told he would be sent home on the right medications.
Jason was home for 8 hours before i brought him back to another hospital. This time, we were in network!

Jasons care was different (in a good way) from the moment we walked in the ER.
Jason was admitted right away. He was given a PIC Line in his arm. He was given chemo 3 days after being admitted. The care was aggressive. The doctors & nurses were working as a team with Jason & I. They are all so caring and concerning to us as a family. They explained to us detail for detail all the stuff that Jason was going to go through and what to look out for.  The Medication that Jason oncologist picked for his chemo sessions, is a very aggressive treatment. Its a mix of 3 medications. They are Alimta, Keytruda & Carboplatin.

Since chemo has started, Jason has since had a Port surgical implanted in his chest.
He has had 4 blood transfusions.
He has been hospitalized 3 times.
He has had 4 chemotherapy sessions.
He has lost almost 30 pounds
He has been bed ridden for days at a time.
There are times where Jason  cant walk without the help of his cane or walker.
He lost his company.
He lost his freedom.

Jason has been the Owner of his Company Freer Masonry Restoration for 11 years!! He never missed work!! He loved his work and was very proud of what he did. He is well admired in the Mason World.  He ALWAYS worked his ass off!!

Jason has been a sponsor of Ziggys Special Olympics Basketball Team on many occasions. He has sponsored The Polar Plunge 4 years in a row!!
Jason has been the main provider of our family. Jason has always made sure we lived a happy life. He made sure our cats have a great life too.  He is an amazing man & Stepdad. And if you were lucky enough to get to know him and call him a friend, you knew that he would do anything for you. He has a very big heart.

Since Jason was diagnosed, He has had to give up his company and had to apply for disability. He was approved for disability, however it is NOT what he used to make and it does not start until May.  A lot of his medical bills and procedures  are not getting paid  by his insurance (we have no idea why) Bills are starting to pile up.  Money is getting REALLY tight.  We have no one we can move in with! It is hard to ask for help, but sometimes we have to accept any help we an get.

Any money we collect goes towards Medical Bills, Mortgage, House bills and day-to-day living.
Thank you advance for any help.
