Japan Flood Recovery

Tax deductible
The Japanese Cultural Society of Maui is raising funds to help with flood recovery efforts in Japan.

Early July 2018, torrential rains triggered major flooding in western and central Japan, with the death tolling around 200, hundreds missing and millions forced from their homes.

"Some of our members have relatives and loved ones affected by the disastrous flooding and we want to help by raising what we can," said Deron Furukawa, president of JCSM. "I urge you to contribute any amount to show our aloha to our brothers and sisters in Japan."

Funds raised will be given to the Fukuyama City government, an affected town in Hiroshima prefecture. Maui County and Fukuyama City has a strong sister-city relationship and JCSM would like to demonstrate its solidarity during this hard time of disaster.

Here are some images from Japan Forward. More can be found here.

These heartbreaking images happened early in July 2018. Residents today continue to mourn those who passed, and many continue to look for missing loved ones. Local governments are working tirelessly to restore infrastructure and provide assistance to affected communities.

In the spirit of international cooperation, the Japanese Cultural Society of Maui humbly requests for your donation to help in their recovery efforts.

Sincerely yours,
