Janice's Battle Against ALS

Donativo protegido
My mother, Janice Gentile, spent over 30 years as a nurse. In hospitals and nursing homes as well as private homes, taking care of people who could not care for them selves. In April of 2017, Janice was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gherig's disease.
ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their demise. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, people may lose the ability to speak, eat, move and breathe.

In January of 2018, due to declining mobility, she made the decision to go into a nursing home. The progression of the disease has been faster than any of us could expect, making a Full Time facility necessary.

This Sunday, at Monirae's Resturant in Penneville, NY  family will be hosting a benefit from 12-5pm to help cover an outstanding amount for the nursing home cost. We will be having a spaghetti dinner along with Gift Basket drawing, a 50/50 draw every hour and a bake sale. I have been asked if there was a way for people to donate through Facebook if they could not attend, which is why I have created this Fund.  Anything raise through here will go directly into the Benefit proceeds. We would love to see you there, but if you can not attend and would still like to donate, you can do that here.

Mom spent so much of her life taking care of others, won't you help take care of her?

Thank you,
