Janelle needs our help.
Some of you may not be aware that Janelle has experienced serious health issues throughout the years. Often when she is ill, only those closest to her knew about the confusing pain and discomfort she was feeling, and she has seen countless doctors to try to find answers. Most of them just scratched their heads and said, I don't know what the cause of this is.
Recently, her symptoms took a turn for the worse.
Janelle has been trying to discover what the cause of extreme fatigue, dizziness, hives, breathing issues, extreme allergic reactions, brain fog, body pain, neurological issues, neuropathy and in the last couple of years, the formation of small skin lesions. These lesions, while scary, are also helping to bring her closer to the actual diagnosis, and she is currently working closely with a team of physicians to get the correct analysis and testing. The biopsy results come back in a week, and the lesions are related to a condition called Mastocytosis. This is a blood, histamine and immune disorder that leads to a variety of difficult symptoms and is incredibly hard to diagnose, and in the worst case scenario it can be related to cancer and leukemia. Even if the lesions are not cancerous, the underlying condition is chronic and will require a total lifestyle change, which Janelle has already embraced with her trademark tenacity.
In the past 12 years I have known Janelle, she has been committed to healing herself and others through counseling, social activism, creativity, nature and of course - love. It's a sort of relief that we are beginning to find some direction towards figuring out what has been causing this, but of course it does not come without financial hardship. Janelle has worked and gone through all her savings in the past couple years just trying to survive and attempting to discover what is causing these health issues. She is at the point of possibly having to give up her job in Ashland and go on disability.
As we all know, this would be a fraction of what she needs to survive, and of course to heal and be/eat healthy. Eating low histamine foods is vital to her continued health (lots of fresh meat and vegetables, no high histamine foods, specialized supplements, travel to see specialists, etc).
Please consider donating toward to this fund so Janelle can focus on healing in the next few months without the fear of losing her housing and ability to care for her basic needs. All proceeds will be going to rent, food, medications and appointments she needs for her health. Fortunately, she does have health insurance, but she may also need to move outside of the Ashland area to get the specialized health care she needs based on the lack of treatment options in her area (Portland or San Francisco). ANY amount raised will be incredibly helpful.
