Janelle Andersen Breast Cancer Fund

$4,294 of $50,000 goal

Our family was devastated this week by the news that  Janelle has been diagnosed with breast cancer.  It is an aggressive and invasive type, requiring treatment urgently and extensively.

Janelle will soon undergo  surgery followed by Chemotherapy at a hospital in Salt Lake City, UT.  This may require their family to travel often and for them to be separated from their son.  The Andersens will be facing many financial challenges in addition to the physical pain and emotional toll of cancer.

So often we ask ourselves what we can do to help, as many of us aren't able to provide babysitting or offer to cook a meal.  If only our arms could stretch across the states!  Your donation will help cover the costs associated with traveling, substantial medical bills, and missed hours of work to attend appointments.  This is a burden we can help to lift and carry during this difficult time for them.

Most of all we ask for your continued prayers of healing, hope and peace.  We know that God answers prayers and is mindful of his children.

Thank you all,

The friends and family of Janelle Andersen

Hey everyone, it's update time!
Janelle is officially more than halfway through her chemo treatments. She's been switched from A.C. to Taxol and reports that although she still feels nauseous and tired it's WAY better. She has to take IV Benadryl, so she gets super sleepy during the infusions and then sleeps most of the afternoon. (And worries about falling asleep while eating)
We're happy to report that her tumor has shrunk so significantly that she can't feel it anymore. This really improves her options for surgery and hopefully she can have a lumpectomy.
The insurance company hasn't approved her referral to the Huntsman Cancer in Salt Lake, so she is considering having a local surgeon take care of that for her. So far, her oncology team has been great and she really feels like they made the right decision about her treatment plan. And she's glad she did chemo first...vs. a mastectomy.
Thank you for all the fasting and prayers that went into helping them decide on a course of treatment!
Janelle also has expressed to me how deeply touched she's been by all the doorstep surprises, meals, cards, phone calls and outpouring of love she has received. It's such an overwhelming blessing
Thank you all and please continue to keep her in your prayers.
Nap time!!!

We got an update yesterday that Janelle's insurance finally finished the pre-authorization process. Yay! (I think?) She starts chemo on Tuesday and will be in treatment for 12 weeks on one regiment and an additional 8 weeks on another combination of meds. This is where the really tough stuff begins. Nausea, hair loss, fatigue and generally feeling like the chemo is killing you slowly.
After her chemo they'll done a second assessment before deciding on what type of surgery to perform. Luckily, she tested negative for the BRCA gene. This improves her overall surgical options. Possible lumpectomy vs. Double mastectomy. :)
We appreciate all of your continued prayers and support. Janelle is a strong, optimistic woman and she is going to beat this! Words of encouragement are always welcome.
Thank you for keeping our family in your hearts!

Janelle had a successful port implant surgery. She'll be starting chemo shortly and the port allows the doctor to inject medicine directly, vs. getting multiple IV injections. The treatment is aggressive and she'll be on it for 12 weeks, so the next few months Janelle will be pretty sick. She's expressed many times how grateful she is to everyone for their prayers, donations and offers to help. Thank you everyone! Keep her on your prayer lists!

Janelle is feeling very relieved after her consultation with the Huntsman Cancer in Salt Lake. They are choosing to start chemo first to shrink her tumor and prevent further growth. They have expressed their gratitude for everyone's love and prayers and contributions.
Thank you all so much!
