My daughter Jamie is only 20 years old and has been suffering with a genetic degenerative dental condition since childhood. The symptoms that Jamie has been dealing with on a daily basis is difficulty eating, specifically extreme sensitivity to both hot and cold food & beverages as well as debilitating pain when chewing that has made the act of eating unbearable. Something that is both an essential function for survival but should also be an enjoyable and cultural social experience has become insufferable and something Jamie wishes she didn't have to partake in. Aside from the pain, Jamie has also already undergone a number of uncomfortable, expensive and failed dental procedures in an attempt to alleviate her symptoms, in hopes of aiding in the progression of this chronic condition. In only a few years, every single procedure has either failed to provide any help, and any temporary caps/bridges have done nothing but cause more pain, more required dental work and increased the risks of losing her front teeth even quicker than expected. After seeking a handful of dental consults and many many opinions, the consensus is that the only way Jamie will be able to live a normal life, eventually be able to eat without excruciating pain, or even possibly enjoy the cultural and social aspects of cooking and dining, is to undergo a full restoration of her mouth. Without the restoration process, which itself is not a painless or remotely pleasant series of procedures, Jamie will very quickly lose every tooth in her mouth. Presently, half of Jamie's teeth are either broken or have noticeable holes in them. The front teeth which have already received temporary bridges have already begun receding in addition to fractures, and are at very high risk of falling out in the very near future. Jamie is 20 years old and hasn't been able to smile in a photograph since she was a child. As her mother, it is heartbreaking to watch your child undergo any type of pain, but this has been particularly hard because her teeth have cause her life to change in ways that are unfair and unpleasant for any teenager to be forced to handle. Lastly, after a first, second, third opinion and a handful more, the most inexpensive option is fortunately the most permanent option. Although costing over $25,000, Jamie will have every tooth removed from her mouth, and a set of permanent implants drilled into her jaw bone. These implants will never need to be replaced or modified, like many of the other options, which would ultimately cost around $27,000 each time they needed replacing (multiple times throughout Jamie's adult life). Unfortunately, we cannot afford to pay for the necessary dental work Jamie requires and am asking our friends and family to donate anything they are able. We are beyond appreciative for any little bit, because every little bit helps Jamie get closer to her goal of $26,500. Please help us provide Jamie with the next 20 years free of pain and able to smile again without shame and feeling self conscious.
Please share this link with your family and friends. We are so very grateful for anyone who is able to help Jamie.
