In the summer of 2015 I had the amazing opportunity to serve on a mission’s trip to Oracabessa, Jamaica where I was first introduced and fell in love with the children of Jamaica at Spicy Grove Youth Center. I fell in love with the community of Spicy Grove and the children’s instinct to love and welcome strangers, just like Christ. I want to help introduce them to the Author of Love and give them even more reason to hold out hope for their future.
This summer I am so excited to announce that I will be revisiting Jamaica as an intern working at Spicy Grove Youth Center from May 27th to June 23rd. Spicy Grove is a youth center located in Oracabessa, St. Mary, Jamaica. Their mission is to reach the children and families in the community by showing them the love of Christ. The avenues in which they aim to represent Christ is through providing meals, community, comfort, unconditional love, sacrificial service, and a haven for underprivileged families to trust in. As an intern, I will assist in administering creative activities with the children such as, crafts, music time, sports programs, tutoring, and Bible Club, as well as assist with their breakfast program. I also hope to participate in community outreach by helping build up the community in practical ways by volunteering for building projects, yard work, etc.
First and foremost, I want to ask you to join my prayer team this summer as I serve at Spicy Grove Youth Center. With lots of thought and prayer, I believe that God wants me in Jamaica this summer to share the love of Christ. I am so excited to take part in his special plan for me. I ask for prayer with safety and wisdom and that God would give me the words to say while ministering to others.
Secondly, Spicy Grove is a nonprofit organization and in order to make this trip possible fundraising is a necessity. In total, I must fundraise $2,000 to cover all my expenses during the 4 weeks I am serving in Jamaica. Any kind of help towards funding is welcomed and very much appreciated!
