Surgery For Jake: Rally ‘Round the Woodbooger!

This is a little story about Jake.

Jake (aka Lord Jake Von Schlitze Brooks, Jakey, Woodbooger, Boogie, Baby Boy, Big Jake, Mister Sir, Dood and, of course, Mama’s Sweet Man) is an 8-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer who is loved by Mary and her husband Chris (as well as our whole family, his many human girlfriends and a large portion of the greater San Diego area—especially South Park.)

He is also a certified Very Good Boy… go ahead… ask anyone who’s met him. It’s true.

Last week Jake was diagnosed with lung cancer, which is really impeding his very important jobs of protecting the yard from squirrels and lizards, barking at his fish friends, helping his Papa in the studio and jumping on the bed to watch bad TV with his Mama. It’s also cramping his social life, making his walks more tiring and his local pub visits with his humans a little less frequent, which makes him very, very sad.

The good news is that Jake has a very good chance of survival, but he has to go through the hassle of surgery to remove the tumor and, potentially, chemotherapy before he can get back to being the strong Woodbooger that he is.

The cost of this will be anywhere from $10,000 + when you add up all his diagnostic tests, his CT scan, surgery, recovery and chemo. Quite a few friends and relatives have reached out asking the family if a GoFundMe would be set up so they can show their love for Jake and support for Mary and Chris… so here we are to save Boogie.

While Mary and Chris are completely prepared to tackle this on their own, we wanted to at least put this in motion for those who wanted to donate, get pupdates, or simply share their support and prayers.

Any donation, no matter how small, would be cherished and appreciated. And to show you how grateful he is, Jake says he’ll be giving away free hugs and might even let you rub his belly when he’s feeling better.

Love,
The Campbell and Brooks Family

P.S. If, for any reason things don’t go as expected and there are any funds left over, we’ll be donating them to the California German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue that brought Jake to our family so that they can continue helping people get a Woodbooger of their own.
