Jake DeHoop is one of the most inspirational men you will meet.  He was diagnosed with Leukemia as a junior in high school.  At that time he excelled on the football and baseball field.  He was quickly forced to take that competitive drive and put it toward the biggest fight of his life.  Along with battling leukemia, he was able to complete high school and graduate with a degree in biomedical sciences from Auburn University.  While at Auburn, he met and courted his wonderful wife, Carly.  He accomplished all of his academic goals and met the love of his life while still fighting this horrible disease.  Finally, in August of 2015, Jake won his battle against Cancer!

Jake won the battle, but the war is not over.  On Thursday, May 10th, 2018 Jake was informed that he will have to fight again.  The Leukemia has returned, and he will need to undergo more intense treatment.  The initial phase will be inpatient, high dose chemotherapy and then a bone marrow transplant.  With this new challenge, Jake and Carly have had to make some very hard decisions including moving their wedding date, moving back to Seattle, Jake leaving his job and Carly having to continue pharmacy school remotely.

This newly married couple will face many challenges along the road to beating leukemia.  We are asking those who are willing, to consider easing their financial burden.  They will have no consistent income while Carly finishes school.  They also have many medical expenses coming their way including flights back from Alabama to Seattle on Wednesday 5/16/18 and prolonged hospital stays.

Please consider making a donation to Jake and Carly during this first month of intense treatment (5/16/18-6/16/18)  in order to ease their financial stress.   Let's show them that we are with them as Jake stands up to cancer!

Here’s an update from Carly- “We've had some hard days of uncontrollable nausea and pain, procedures, needles, and many sleepless nights. It's hard not to go stir crazy some days from staring at the same 4 walls and never being aloud to leave or allow Jake to be disconnected from his IV pole. Some of the medicines make him unable to communicate well. He hallucinates sometimes and will be awake all day but unable to open his eyes. This life is hard. It's claustrophobic, it's frustrating, it causes anxiety. Last night was pretty high up there on nights of hard nights. This time mainly due to anxiety and fear. We let the numbers and statistics creep in, the fear of having no control over this situation, and longing to live a "normal" life. Maybe a home of our own one day, being able to fall asleep and wake up in the same bed, no nurses every hour, being able to have a conversation, and mostly Jake being healthy. We dreamed this little life of serving and loving each other every day, but while being able to hold each other, dance in the kitchen, cook together, and lots of our other favorite activities. This life we live now is definitly not normal. But It's very humbling. We are merely humans in this big amazing world that God created. We are humans easily tempted by pride and complacency when living these normal lives and forget our desperation for God. Our flesh and our minds are weak. But God is strong and He desires a way better life for us than any dream we could have had about a normal life. We have hearts overflowing with love for our gracious God.

It is humbling to have no control and to lay here every day with nothing we can do. But it forces us to our knees before the only one who does have control over this. It is HARD to let go, to let whatever God decides happen. But it's hard because I sometimes forget the character of God and remember to ignore every thing else. It's hard to let go because of my own anxiety as I think of the crappy statistics and sometimes see hopelessness even in the faces of our doctors (the ones we are supposed to know how to fix this!) Numbers are constricting and suffocating.

But God has no boundaries. Look at this earth! Gods "greatness is broader than the earth and wider than the sea...The sky is no limit for Him!" HE is beyond the boundaries of our human minds and everything about Him is GOOD. His plans are to prosper us and for hope, He gives us breath each morning, He created us in His image, He sent His Son Jesus to save us from ourselves, and He filled us with His Spirit. HE breaks the chains of sin and death, He "governs our minds with life and peace," He is our only Strength. Apart from Christ, we have nothing. And in Christ, is freedom, power, and courage. The one who paints the skies, who controls the thunder and lightning, and who sustains all living things, chooses to fill His people with joy, hope, peace, and His powerful Spirit. We are never alone because God is near and truly understands everything we are going through.
God is slow to anger as we battle with all these thoughts and approaches us with undending love and faithfulness. He hears our cries and hears or prayers and is filled with compassion and he ACTS.
this morning, the leukemia cells went down to ZERO!! We have never gotten a ZERO!! Praise the Lord, Almighty! Praise praise praise God who is WORTHY! This is a long fight but today, all I could do was dance around the hospital room after hearing the news and say thank you to God. Today was a day of Happy tears. Today was a day to celebrate. Thank you all for the support and prayers.”

You all have overwhelmed us with your generosity and it is one of the few things that have brought Jake & Carly peace and comfort as they consider their future! The words, "Thank you!" just aren't deep enough to truly express how incredibly grateful and humbled we are by your act of love in this way, but none the less we do thank you!

We have one goal with this Go Fund Me Campaign and it is to allow Jake to focus on the FIGHT.

11 days have passed since Jake's relapse was diagnosed. Jake & Carly now know they are looking at a minimum of a year of treatment time and during that time Carly will be traveling back and forth to Alabama to complete her Doctorate of Pharmacology, potentially as often as a several times a month. A year's worth of life expenses, medical needs including supplements and any natural treatments not covered by insurance, and the travel expenses adds up to far beyond our initial goal amount. Our initial amount seemed large at the time before we knew all the facts about treatment and where we would be right now.

So, we are raising our goal to $40,000 and trusting God to provide through His generous people - our ALL In Fighters! We cannot do this Fight without YOU. Your giving removes the stress and worry about providing for his Bride that Jake feels and grieves so deeply in his soul. You are removing the heavy burdens from their shoulders and gifting he and Carly the freedom to fight cancer and love each other! If you ever feel helpless in the fight and don't know what you can do to help please PRAY, it's our strongest weapon that empowers all others!

Lastly, Jake & Carly want you to know that any money they do not use from this fund, they will donate either directly to patients in need, to cancer research, or split between Children's of Alabama and Seattle Children's Hospital. You are donating to generous people who also love to give!

Jake had surgery yesterday to get the Hickman. Today he will start chemo and with it get a spinal tap. This starts a 28 day induction therapy. Please pray for God to remove the cancer and that the treatment is effective. Please be praying for Jake, Carly and our family. We are so overwhelmed by the generosity of those who are actively loving and supporting us. We cannot believe we raised 20K in a few days! This young couple will have many more expenses during this time and absolutely no source of income. These expenses include multiple flights for Carly from WA to AL as she works to complete pharmacy school, medical bills, and cost of living. Let’s see if we can set them up financially so they won’t have any worries!

That you so much for your support. We are all so grateful!!

Thank you for exceeding our goal, but let’s keep pushing to show our love and support!
