Please Support Jake Ahlquist!

Dear friends, loved ones, and community supporters, my 21-year-old cousin Jake Ahlquist suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) from a scooter accident while vacationing in Fort Lauderdale, FL on Thursday, March 14, 2019.

He’s currently in the Intensive Care Unit at Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, FL – 1200 miles away from home and his family/friends in Connecticut. He underwent emergency brain surgery to remove a large section of his skull covering his left temporal and rear occipital lobes to relieve the internal hemorrhaging/bleeding caused by the accident.

His mom, dad and sister traveled down to FL and remain by his side day and night. He’s endured 2 additional surgical procedures to remove blood clots and had his breathing tube replaced with a tracheostomy - trach tube.

Jake’s immediate and long-term TBI prognosis is unknown. Doctors have attempted to lower his sedatives but he’s unresponsive to verbal commands. The accident damaged the areas of his brain regulating speech, comprehension and sight. Until the swelling dissipates, surgeons are unable to place back the section of skull they removed when the accident occurred; this 4th surgery is pending. Your prayers, encouragement and inspiration are sincerely appreciated.

Jake attended high school in Berlin, CT, and he is currently enrolled as a sophomore at Middlesex Community College, CT. He’s a devoted family member and friend, and an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Boston Red Sox. Jake is dedicated to sports, fitness, the outdoors, and his golden retriever, Dallas. All who know Jake personally, are confident that he has the strength, drive and motivation a young man will need in order to overcome a TBI. His support network of family, friends and community will be here every step of the way.

I established this GoFundMe account and an independent financial account to ensure that Jake receives the best medical care necessary to save and improve his quality of life. I’m managing and overseeing fund distributions ensuring all proceeds raised (except for GoFundMe’s required 2.9% + $.30 transaction fee for credit/debit card per donation) will go directly to help Jake with his long-term care.

Your generosity will greatly impact Jake's care and eventual rehabilitation. We’re inspired and humbled by the personal stories shared and hope that you and/or your loved one are doing well too. On behalf of Jake, his parents, sister, our family and friends, please accept our sincerest gratitude for your outpouring of prayers and support.

Thank you!   #quiststrong
