Dear Donor,
Hi, I’m Jaia Learson. I am a seventh grader at McKinley Middle Academic Magnet in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. McKinley is a high-performing, A-rated, dedicated Academic Magnet School with a focus on Visual and Performing Arts. McKinley has been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School and has received the titles of Magnet School of Excellence and Magnet School of Distinction from Magnet Schools of America. As a McKinley student, I make A’s & B’s. I am in Gifted/Talented for theater, take piano as an elective, I’m in the Jr. Beta Club and I’m a Lady Mustang for McKinley’s (Middle School Tournament qualifying) soccer team. My school believes in the importance of global education. National and international travel opportunities provide students with lasting cultural connections through hands-on learning experiences in new places.
This Spring 2017, my principal is taking a limited number of students to Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa for 11 days. I am excited to be counted in that number. This once in a lifetime trip would include tours of Mandela’s and Bishop Desmond Tutu’s homes, Mandela’s prison cell, interaction with students in the Johannesburg area, cultural tours of Johannesburg and Cape Town and a safari. I would love to go! But I need your help. With the historic flooding in our area recently, my family’s focus has shifted into recovery mode. While my family is trying to send me on this trip, this is an overwhelming challenge. With your financial assistance, this trip will become a reality for me and my family. The money donated will go toward the travel costs. I truly appreciate any and all donations your heart leads you to give.
