Jahrel's shoulder surgery

Hi everyone my name is Jahrel Murphy, an 18-year-old backstroker at Ealing SC. I am a double medalist at the 2017 commonwealth youth championships (50 back silver & 4x100 mixed medley relay bronze), bronze medal at the 2017 European junior championships in Israel (mixed 4x100 medley relay), English record holder on 50m backstroke (17 yr), and London swimming athlete of the year 2017. I received the devastating news last week that I have to have surgery on my right shoulder. I have always had the dream of going to the Olympics but this has been put on hold because I am unable to train at the moment. Time is limited because I want to be fit and ready to race at the Olympic Trials in 2020. I need the surgery as soon as possible to allow me every chance to be ready to race. I have an opportunity to have it next month if I can raise £7,000 to cover all the costs of the operation, rehab, and physio. Being an injured athlete is miserable and frustrating because I cannot do the sport I love.

I haven't had an easy journey so far, I live with my mum and younger brother and they have always done everything they can for me but money hasn't always been easy due to our situation. My life so far has been full of knockbacks, but each time my family and I have got through them. I want to do justice to their sacrifices which means having this surgery as soon as possible to give me a shot at the Olympics. I want to do this for my family because my dreams are a joint effort.
