Jade's Boston Arts Internship Fund

Donation protected
Hey! I'm Jade and I have just graduated from Glasgow School of Art. I currently live and work in Glasgow and will be travelling to Boston in June 2017 to do an Arts Administration internship with Boston Arts and Business Council.

Firstly, WOW... what an amazing opportunity and I feel so honoured to have been accepted! Below is some info about the organisation, what it does and why it is so important for me to raise money for this internship.

What is Boston Arts and Business Council?

A&BC is a non-profit company which invests in creative people and organisations. It does this by providing a platform of programmes and services designed to support the creative community in Boston.  Here are some examples of the great things they do:

-Empowering artists, arts organisations and creative entrepreneurs by providing invaluable business tools and resources such as professional development education, workshops, webinars, unique fellowship opportunities and mentoring.

-Providing Legal protection for artists through the 'Volunteer Lawyers for the Art of Mass' programme, allowing artists and cultural organisations to benefit from legal services, advice and educational programming.

-Strengthening and building the capacities of non-profits, non-profit boards and creative businesses - from training skilled executives for non-profit board service to supporting organizations with access to HR education and benefits for their employees.

-Partnering with foundations, philanthropists and local government to respond to the needs of artists and organizations and support the health of the creative economy. For example: teaming up with local businesses through a corporate art lending programme.

Why is this internship so important to me?

This is a wonderful opportunity for me to discover the different types of arts programmes available to the creative people of Boston, who without the Arts and Business Council may struggle to reach their full potential. Being an artist means it is sometimes all too easy to get caught up in your own practice, however, I'd like to broaden my awareness of the positive social impact the arts can have overall. This way I can give something meaningful back to the creative community.

Undergoing an internship in Arts Administration means I can utilise my creative abilities to assist in researching and writing grants, create and organise educational curriculum and learn important marketing and promotion skills needed in order to run a successful non-profit. It will offer me a reach chance to develop professionally and put my new skills into action when I come back to Glasgow.

I believe that each and every creative person should be able to reach their potential by gaining practical and helpful support. In tough economic times the importance of the arts is often overlooked; however A&BC continues to invest in arts opportunities in order to nurture the creative community. I want to dedicate as much time and energy as possible into my role as an intern and educate myself about the ways in which A&BC contributes to making the arts both accessible and recognised.

Why am I asking for your help?

The Arts and Business Council is a non-profit organisation and relies on funding from city, state, individuals and foundations meaning that the internship is done on a voluntary basis. I am relying on your generosity because the internship will be entirely self-funded. Although I have saved up some money during my studies, it will not be enough to cover the costs of travel (flights to Boston from Glasgow), everyday living and travel costs, visa costs, medical insurance and any other expenses which may crop up during my time there. The length of my internship will depend on the amount raised.

The ultimate goal is to raise enough money to be able to intern for at least two months, as the longer I can spend providing vital assistance to the organisation, the more rewarding it will be.

If you can give anything at all, thank you.

Any financial support that you are able to provide will be thoroughly appreciated. No matter how great or small a donation, your generosity will mean the absolute world to me.

As a little thank you gift, I will be sending a small A5 lino print to everyone who donates, which you can see on my website under the name 'Floruit'   -
