Jack’s in a “Thready” Situation

Donation protected
Jack has been seen by 3 veterinarians since Saturday, August 4th. The first vet saw evidence of thread or string causing placating or accordion folding of his intestines. The second vet found the thread wrapped tightly around the very base of his tongue and down into his throat. The second vet referred me to the third, since evidence shows he has the thread wrapped around his tongue, through his stomach, and into his intestines causing him internal distress. The third vet, Lisa Hess DVM at VCA Loomis Basin, has confirmed Jacks needs for surgery after she removed the thread around his tongue.  So, Jack is now in surgery in a “thready” situation.  We are asking for help finding his $3,200 surgery as we are not in a financial position to pay for it’s entirety. Information is listed below if you would like to contribute directly to Jack’s medical bill at VCA Loomis Basin.

About Jack and his condition:

Jack was adopted from FieldHaven Feline Center and officially became a Yarwood in January 2018.

Jack is a playful boy, he’s an instigator, and he’s momma’s boy. Since Jack came into our lives he has bonded with us, his adoptive parents, his human sister, and fur-sister.  He’s much loved and has helped me (Momma) so much with my depression and anxiety with comfort, following me when I am in distress, looking after me in general... essentially he is my third child and he cares for me in more ways than I could have ever imagined a cat ever could.

Jacks human sister got into my sewing thread on Tuesday, my husband and I thought nothing of it because the thread looked clean cut.  When his food was switched, due to tight funds, to a cheaper canned cat food is when Jack started to get sick. Naturally, we assumed it was because of the food switch that he was having issues keeping food down and because of a troubled stomach the reason why he was secluding himself.  I reached out to FieldHaven to see if they had any resources for low income pet owners as Jack was becoming very withdrawn and dehydrated.  After talking with their staff I chose to take him to our usual vet and then we would talk about the findings. Upon our visit to PetCare Veterinary Clinic (Roseville, Ca) on 8/4/18 we learned that Jack was showing signs in x-rays of a thread in his intestines and known as a lateral foreign body placating them and ruffling or folding them like an accordion. Because of our finances we opted to take him home, this is when I reached out to FieldHaven to tell them about the issues brought up at PetCare. The Owner and creator of FieldHaven, Joy, reached out to me and asked me to bring Jack in to be examined by their vet on staff the next day.  As Jack was being inspected at FieldHaven the vet found thread wrapped around his tongue tightly.  This, combined with the X-rays we had, lead her to believe this thread is wrapped around his tongue and into his intestines, that jack would need emergency surgery to allow him to lead a healthy life again. Without removal Jack would be facing sepsis, perforation, and death.

After appying and recieving $1200 with Care Credit, Jack is now in surgery at VCA Loomis Basin Veterinary Clinic.  The total cost of his surgery will be over $3,000 and now we are in a “thready” situation.  VCA Loomis Basin is using intern funds to help ‘discount’ the surgery, I have established $1200 to put a deposit on the surgery so Jack could have it today, and now we are looking at a total of $2000 needed to pay for the remainder of Jacks surgery. As of 6:42pm, Sunday, August 5th, 2018, Jack is IN surgery to remove the thread. In order for Jack to come home he we will need to find funding for the remainder of the cost. I have applied for a RedRover Grant but have not find out about if I have been accepted to receive a grant and do not know when.

There are two ways you can help Jack today, you can contribute directly to this Gofundme or you can call and contribute directly to VCA Loomis Basin.  If you would like to contribute by contacting Loomis Basin here is the information you will need:
