You never expect to be in this situation.  You always think you'll have time to plan things out, say more, do more and prepare for "those" moments.  Well, when the time comes, it comes fast and swift and leaves the loved ones picking up the pieces desperately grasping for answers and attempting to make sense of their newfound altered life.

For those of you who were lucky enough to know Jack, you know the hole he left behind.  His songs, his stories, his jokes, his lessons and his projects touched us all in our own way.  Sadly, on February 26th, after working an overnight storm call shift, he suddenly collapsed without warning.  No symptoms, no signs and in an instant he was on the ground with a lifeless heart.  So many keep exclaiming “but he was so fit and healthy and worked circles around the kids” in disbelief that his heart would end up being the reason he didn’t come home from work that day.  With questions far outnumbering answers at this time, we are left with only memories of the multi-talented man that many called friend.

Jack was my step-father.  However, he was more than just someone who married my mother.  He was a mentor, a teacher, a music instructor, a role model and so much more.  He was the example of how to be a strong, yet tough man while also being a sensitive and caring lover and father.  A loyal brother, an honorable son and a creative and outgoing grandfather, Jack was the perfect family man.  I don't need to remind you how great he was, that was evident with the turnout at his wake.  Many people keep offering sentiments of "let us know how we can help" and "whatever it is, don't be afraid to ask".  Sadly, what is needed most is help in preparing for the financial future of my Mother and Sister.

My Mom was very apprehensive about a GoFundMe.  She doesn't want people feeling bad for her or overextending due to her loss.  Her guilt and pride are admirable however, I feel the financial stress of the future should be the least of her worries as she learns to live without her soulmate.  Without a life insurance plan and no financial relief, simply stated there is not enough income to cover the shared mortgage and loans without his contributions.  I coerced my Mother into this fundraiser to help with immediate needs like finding a home heating solution, refinancing the mortgage if possible and completing the list of needed repairs that Jack was always tackling in their home.

Please don't feel obligated in any way to donate.  Many of you have already done and offered so much which we are so appreciative of.  However, I know many of you are desperate for ways to help and this may offer you an avenue to do so.  Every little bit helps so please don’t feel embarrassed or guilty if you can only contribute $10 toward this cause.

We can't bring him back.  We can't ask him what do to.  What we can do is honor his legacy by trying to maintain the life that he and my Mom built together as long as possible.  Any help with this venture would be greatly appreciated.

On behalf of Christine Gould and family,

Thank you.
