Jack Colton's Helmet

Donation protected
My life for the last year has been crazy! It’s been filled with both lots of ups, and lots of down’s. Just over a year ago (when I was just 3 months pregnant), my son’s daddy faced something we never saw coming or even imagined could ever happen - a massive stroke.  He has since been in the hospital for over a year now.  To say that’s been hard would be a major understatement.  However, that being said, he has been the strongest man I’ve ever known, to turn it all around and have a miraculous recovery that even doctors imagined impossible. He will soon be coming home to us.

The day Jack was born my life was forever changed again. The birth was rough (in fact, we almost lost him), but he pulled out that strength like his daddy and that sound of his first cry will always be the best sound I ever heard. I knew right then & there without any question I would give & do everything I can to provide the best life possible for him.  Within a month or so, I started noticing Jack’s head shape beginning to change. When I saw his doctor, we came up with idea’s and different things we could do to try and correct the way things were happening. 6 months later, after attempting to do everything I can (with unfortunately no results), it was then I was again told something I did not want to hear. Jacks pediatrician was sending us over to Sick Kids. My son’s head is misshaped & growing irregular.  When we arrived at Sick Kids they were amazing - they did some scanning of his head, & I have since been provided the opportunity to have a special helmet made for him. We can correct the problem! We have the perfect window of opportunity right now before the skull becomes hardened by 9 months. I am completely terrified, as the thought of him in a helmet absolutely crushes me – however the fear of him being bullied for the rest of his life, terrifies me more. He is such a happy little boy & that’s the way he deserves to be forever more.

There does then come an additional problem to the equation. - The expense of the helmet. It is thousands of dollars, and I am on my own providing for Jack – currently on maternity leave making of course a lot less than normal salary.  I’m not someone who normally asks for help when needed. But I am truly in need for some help currently. My son is everything to me – and I want to do everything in my power to make this happen for him.

I need help! – even just kind words, if you can – because, let’s face it – every last bit helps.  We’re going to be spending a lot of time in Sick Kids in the next few months and some positive thoughts are always helpful & reassuring.

I’d like to thank everyone in advance for all of your love, help & support throughout this difficult time for me. I am so grateful for you all!
