Save Padfoot! Help Him Walk Again!!

I was walking across the parking lot on my way in to work when I heard a dull thud followed by a revving engine and a high keening sound, which I struggled at first to place. Sickening realization washed over me as I spun around and saw a car speeding away, leaving a small black form to drag itself out of the road about a half a block down the road, crying pitifully all the while. I rushed over and found a puppy about 5 mos old with his back legs nearly useless, though not too bloody. He wagged his tail as I approached and licked my hand when I reached to touch him. The car that hit him was long gone, but I couldn’t just leave him there.

I took the poor little guy to the closest vet, VCA Mission Animal Hospital, where Dr. Lazarte told me, after X-rays, that he has spiral fractures in both femurs and 3 separate fractures to his pelvis. Estimated cost to get this guy mobile and healthy again is $5,000.  The breaks are so bad that they have to call in a specialist and put metal plates into both legs as well as entirely removing the head of one femur. So I’m putting my faith in the animal lover’s community. Please help me save this little guy’s life! He is so sweet and just a puppy and he deserves a chance to grow up!
