Support Jim Reilly

Beschermde donatie
Asking for support from friends and family does not come easily however under the circumstances it can’t be avoided. As many of you know, Jimmy Reilly has been fighting valiantly against Kidney disease for six long years.

Chronic Kidney disease is a progressive unrelenting adversary. For those battling against this foe, and waiting for their transplant, it means dialysis three times a week. For some, it means the loss of one toe, then another. For some, it means loss of a leg and possibly another. It often means the loss of a job. Everyone in this battle is fighting with the singular goal of moving to the top of the transplant list.

Jimmy has valiantly fought this battle moving through each and every step. Dialysis, loss of job, loss of toes, ultimately the loss of one leg, then one week later, the other. He has been on and off the transplant list for 6 years, health issues caused by the disease itself continue to prevent him from moving to the top of the list. Because of this disease Jimmy has lost a lot, including his income and his savings.

Jimmy is keeping positive and working hard as he heals from such a travesty of life. Just three short weeks after the amputation of his second leg he is to be discharged from rehab. He is thrilled at the thought of being out of the hospital, but he knows it is going to be challenging living on his own as a double amputee. He simply wants to live with dignity and independence. He also faces the logistic of transport to Dialysis three times a week until he gets a transplant, initially requiring an ambulance for each round trip.

The cost of converting a home to be wheelchair accessible is overwhelming. It requires creating ramps, modifying the bedroom to allow transfer from bed to chair, widening all doorways in the house, redoing bathroom and kitchen to be wheelchair friendly, even retrofitting a vehicle. This does not include the cost of daily home health care and transportation in the ambulance three times a week.

His family is doing all they can but these costs are insurmountable. Let’s try to show our support for Jimmy. Please give whatever you can, if you can. If you can’t please pass this on so people become more aware of the devastating impact Kidney disease has on a person’s life.
