J Michael Fox- Kick Out Cancer Fund

It's the phone call everyone dreads. That call that someone you love has cancer. Unfortunately, this time it was our turn and that person was my brother-in-law, Michael. Micheal's journey started with unexplained kidney failure right before Christmas and 40 days in the hospital--and ended not with relief or resolution but with a diagnosis of a rare cancer. Micheal and my sister, Stacie, were told (on their 13th wedding anniversary) that he has T-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma, a cancer that occurs in only 2% of adults.

The road ahead is long and mostly unimaginable, and this is why I am asking for your help.

At this time, Michael is getting chemotherapy to force the cancer into remission. Once accomplished he will undergo a bone marrow transplant. Because this cannot be done near his home, he will have to live away from home not only the month of his transplant but for six more months, requiring 24/7 care in a designated apartment close to the hospital and over an hour away from his wife and children.

The financial and emotional burden is difficult to comprehend. Michael will miss the daily adventures of his two young daughters and they will miss being able to give him a hug every day. His two older children will have the forced burden of growing up too soon as they help meet the demands of the new family "normal".  Michael has also had to put his 22-year teaching career on hold and Stacie has to be the glue that holds this all together.  When I think about what it would be like for my own family, I frankly can't.

As a family member, I often feel helpless to make a true difference in their situation. Yet, together with family and friends, I know we can ease at least some of the financial burden for Michael and his family with generous donations.

Please donate in honor of family, in memory of someone you have lost to cancer, in the belief that caring does more than ease financial burdens, it restores our faith in each other. Or just because cancer really sucks.  Please help me kick cancer out of this family!

When courage and generosity hold hands, all things are possible. --Unknown
