IVF -Help us to get our happy ending
Becoming parents is something we have always wanted but unfortunately it's not as easy for us like most couples. In 2012, at the age of 23, I was diagnosed with bowel cancer which has left me infertile. Before starting my cancer treatment, I started a range of injections to stimulate my ovaries so I could have my eggs collected. Grueling rounds of radiotherapy and chemotherapy were started followed by an operation to form a stoma. After 6 more months of high doses of chemotherapy and another operation to reverse my stoma, I was finally CANCER FREE. Brilliant news. It wasn't long before I started to suffer with hot flushes and was soon diagnosed with premature ovarian failure and premature menopause, I was only 25. In 2015 we decided we would like to 'try for a baby'. After taking medication to prepare my body, 2 embryos were transferred. We were delighted when we got a positive test, but unfortunately we suffered a missed miscarriage. This then meant I needed an operation to remove the gestation sac. In 2016 we tried a further 2 more times which both unfortunately failed. Beginning of 2017 we decided to use our last embryo. The transfer went ahead and we were glad to see a positive test. Unfortunately we also lost this to an early miscarriage (chemical pregnancy). I arranged to have my bloods tested again and unfortunately was told my hormones were high and I was still classed as menopausal. Our only hope now was donor eggs. We applied for exceptional funding to use donor eggs due to the circumstances of us unable to fall pregnant naturally. The CCG, who decides on these things, declined our application for more funding. According to them our circumstances were not exceptional enough for them to warrant more funding from the NHS. This means we are having to fund it ourselves which is difficult. One round of IVF using donor eggs is roughly £7000-£8000. We would love to get our happy ending and actually live our dream of becoming parents.
