Hi friends,

After celebrating a big, big birthday in March, our dear Willow's health has declined rapidly in the past week. The vet, who has cared for her for many years, suggested putting her down yesterday (Friday, April 7) when my mom brought her in in the morning. She had lost all color in her mouth (gums and tongue) and her eyes were black (not amber like usual).
My mom set an appointment to return later in the day, and I left work early. I went to my mom's to spend our last hours with her.
When I arrived, she was bouncing around, eating and super-excited to see me. The color started returning to her membranes and WE KNEW IT WAS NOT HER TIME TO GO.
She's way overdue for a comprehensive blood test and I want the vet to see if there's anything amiss (which I'm sure there is) that we can address with supplements or an antibiotic or something.
I started using toddler diapers for her at night because she's peeing uncontrollably while she sleeps... Incontinence or an infection?? And she had really, really puffy bags under eyes last weekend. I thought it was allergies and the bags went away after a couple Benadryl. But is it an infection in her mouth??
I simply can't give up without a fight. I started a new job a month ago after being let go from another "newish" job... and things haven't normalized yet so I'm very short on money. I'm sick to think that my job transition will get in the way of doing minimal/non-invasive testing to see if we can make the rest of Willow's life as good as the past 12 years.
I adopted Willow from the Humane Society of Broward County in May 2005. She was eight weeks and less than 10 pounds. She's been my mom's best friend and my best friend for more than a decade. Please help us give her another chance with funds to pay for an appointment for testing and treatment on Monday (April 10). My mom, Foley and I will be eternally grateful for your kindess. Thank you from the bottom of my #dogmom heart.

With gratitude,

Willow's 12th Birthday. 3.15.17

RIP Willow.

Today's emergency procedures revealed that poor Willow had cancer. It spread everywhere, and caused internal bleeding; we had to say goodbye. The caring staff was wonderful, and your generosity helped us address the issue without breaking our commitment to her. I'll love her forever and I'll never forget the support that came to her in her last days.

I'm blown away by everyone's love for Willow. Thank you soooo much for taking the time to donate. I know money doesn't grow on trees.. and I know how hard everyone works to make things happen. It means the world to me to know I'm not alone here.

Sunday, April 9: Willow is in great spirits. She's enjoying the free-range chicken I poached for her (thankfully someone gave my mom a million pounds and she had it in the freezer) and the color has returned to her body. BUT her belly is still distended—just like a big water balloon.

We're going to take her ASAP to a new veterinarian to get her the tests she needs... THANKS TO YOUR SUPPORT. I couldn't be this hopeful or proactive without you all.

I found two good options near me in the Pembroke Pines/Miramar area; one has high-tech diagnostic equipment and capabilities so that's probably the one we'll go to. To be continued. Thinking positively!

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
