Dear All,

I’m sure we have all encountered a situation or two life didn’t prepare us for. It is with the utmost respect for your time I share the following with you.

In September 2015 my mom Isabel Narvaez was offered the opportunity to start her dream job. She would be doing a job she enjoyed, a decent salary and best of all she was going to be working from home. Unfortunately, all this came to abrupt halt when she lost sight in her left eye. She contacted an Ophthalmologist immediately where she was told the retina in her left eye was detached. The doctor also informed her the retina in the right eye was torn. She was scheduled for surgery immediately in order to re-attach her retina. After her surgery the doctor told her she should expect to regain sight within two weeks . Two weeks passed and although she still had no sight in her left eye they scheduled the surgery to repair her torn retina. At the post -op for the torn retina she finds out the reason she had not regained sight in her left is because the retina had detached once again. She had a total of 6 surgeries before the doctor decided there was nothing else he could offer except to refer her to an Eye Specialist in Miami.

For the past year my mom has been traveling to Miami every three to four weeks under the care Dr. Timothy Murray . Thankfully, her retinas have remained attached. However, she hasn’t been able to keep up the necessary eye pressure and has also developed scar tissue over the corneas. She has now been LEGALLY BLIND for over a year. In order to reduce the impact on taking time off and traveling 5 hours to and from these visits every month friends and family member alternated driving to Miami. Depending on the type of procedure (ex: surgical procedure with next day follow-up)and or time of the visit, a hotel stay will also come into play. Has you can see the past year has taken a toll on my mom physically and financially. Although she has medical insurance, she has a large yearly deductible to meet ,making her co-payments just as high. She’s had no option except to maxed out every credit card she had in order to have the necessary surgeries ( 6 of which may or may not have been in vain). We are reaching out to you and asking for support in order to help my mom Isabel in her current crisis. She has numerous outstanding hospital bills as well has household. Although, she is LEGALLY BLIND she was told she doesn’t qualify for Medicare.

Through these trials and tribulations and with no idea of what tomorrows holds, as a person of faith my mom remains hopeful her sight will be restored. She’s been attending the Light House for the Blind to learn how to adapt and live in her current situation and gain some independence . (Below I’ve shared an article where my mom is highlighted) .

It has been with the support of family and friends that we have been able to help her endure the hardships and challenges of this unexpected blindness. I personally want to thank those family members and friends that have stepped up to help in one way or another ( keeping her company, making a call, driving her to her appointments or shopping, and most of all praying for her)

If you are able to make a contribution of any amount it will be truly appreciated. If you can’t make a monetary donation, please pray that her eyesight returns.

Thank you all! !
