Hurricane Irma smacked the coast of Florida on Sunday as a Category 4 storm, after ravaging the Caribbean and made its way up the northwestern coast.
In its wake, Irma left a trail of destruction.
But not just for humans. Its effects on animal rescue are felt North as rescue horses who had wonderful homes lined up in the South are now at a standstill, with more rescue horses needing their spots at local northeast organizations. Without their future designated homes in the South, there is now a pressing issue to rehome many, many off track thoroughbreds that leave the track every day in hopes of a new career and loving homes. While they were turning for home, on the last stretch so to speak, their homes were ripped out from under them by this cruel storm. In an effort to help the cause, we will be taking on two thoroughbreds from a southern rescue and rehome them locally after they have been settled in. Unfortunately, due to the hurricanes pummeling Texas and Florida, gas prices have shot up and travel is made much more complicated with a horse trailer. In order to offer these two horses a home, we are trying to raise at a minimum the funds needed to ship them from New Jersey to New York. Loving homes are already in place for the two gentlemen, please help us get them home! Shipping is available to them Wednesday, 13th of September at a discounted rate of $650 for both horses combined. Any donations in the form of hay, grain, and blankets are also greatly appreciated. All additional funds raised will go towards the initial veterinary care, rehab, and retraining of the thoroughbreds. Let's just get these boys home first!
