Insurance denied my brain damaged daughter

In late July 2018, my 29 year old daughter Lyndsay thought she had the flu. She called in sick to work from her full-time job and was resting at home. Three days later I found her unresponsive in her house and called 911. At the hospital, it was determined she was in liver failure, and needed a full transplant. Because of her overall health, she was matched with a liver within one day, which was amazing! By the end of the week she had a new liver. After the transplant, we realized she wasn’t responding cognitively in the way we expected and the doctors attributed it to a lack of oxygen when she was unconscious. It caused severe brain damage.

She’s been in three rehab facilities and they discharge her because Blue Cross Network requires proof of progress within 14-days. 

Lyndsay needs inpatient care because she requires assistance to function. She can’t dress herself or go to the bathroom on her own. If she’s left alone, she wanders away and needs to be watched 24/7.  Her mind functions like a toddler. She also often gets agitated and doesn’t want people to touch her. 

We’ve tried to care for her on our own but were forced to realize she needs more than we can provide. She needs stability and professional care, but unfortunately Blue Cross insurance will not cover it. Like so many other people, we are frustrated with our healthcare system. Essential care for Lyndsay is either not covered at all by insurance or the out-of-pocket expenses are virtually unaffordable with costs for Lyndsay’s inpatient rehabilitation running $10,000 per month.

The only course of action I have is to somehow privately pay for her rehab.  This is obviously an expense I never planned for and desperately need help. Please, please, I’m not asking for an exorbitant amount, just enough where Lyndsay can at least be functional. Any donations will go to Lyndsay’s Special Needs Go Fund Me in which the funds will be managed by a third-party attorney.
