Instant Theatre Fundraiser
Instant Theatre is a non-profit company that is run on the love and support of many dedicated and passionate individuals. All the members involved volunteer a tremendous amount of their time and energy to help maintain and run the comedy school, create and produce live shows, and host several events to connect and engage with community members. The folks behind it are a group of unsung heroes. They are ambassadors to the performing arts, and put their heart and souls into creating a place where misfits like me can embrace who they are and find the confidence to express themselves through comedy.
For those who may not know, my name is Carla Mah and I'm a Vancouver based improv and sketch comedian. I perform with a comedy troupe called, Nasty Women, a comedy duo, called Carmelahhh, and also am a proud member of Instant Theatre.
I am hoping to raise funds to give back to an amazing company that has been such a great influence in my life and in the lives of many others. The funds raised will go directly to Instant to help support their school and future live productions. It will help them maintain the beautiful studio space, and keep them afloat next year when our mainstay venue (Havana Theatre) undergoes renovations.
Some of the funds will go towards the theatre rental for Instant's first devised scripted show, (stay tuned for more details on that), and a rebranding project! Instant is planning to hire some professional help from the marketing and design world to boost their branding. Way cool! But as you know, these types of things cost money.
I have an immense amount of gratitude for this theatre company. It's at Instant that I did a majority of my improv training, and have had the pleasure and opportunity to be a part of several amazing productions; from 90s slumber parties to kung-fu adventures. Beyond training, and performances though, it's the people that make this company so special.
On December 2nd, my comedy partner and best friend, Racquel Belmonte, and I are putting on our next live sketch show called, "Carmelahhh Presents: Blockbuster World." (8:30PM at 195 E. 26th Ave and Main St.) This show also happens to fall on my birthday.
In part with raising funds at our next Carmelahhh sketch comedy show and celebrating another year lived, it is my birthday wish to raise $5,000.00 for a company that gives so much to others. Please join us in giving back to such a generous and loving company that celebrates so many unique voices and perspectives!
